Hello, welcome to DV!
As with all new members, I suggest you do a search on reality checking (RCing) the DEILD technique, and stabilization.
In lucid dreaming, the two main categories of lucid dreams are DILDs (dream induced lucid dreams) and WILDs (wake induced lucid dreams). DILD occurs when someone is asleep, and suddenly realizes they are dreaming. WILD is where a dreamer who is yet to fall asleep prepares themselves to enter a lucid dream directly, via various techniques. There are a lot of sub-methods within these categories.
Generally, beginners use the DILD method, but after a year of WILDing I find I prefer DILD after all. If you are going to try and WILD, I suggest you also search "reverse blinking" which was a totally awesome tip for me when I was starting.
