      Going to my first bar

So tomarrow night at midnight I'm going to my first bar for my friends 21st and I'm super nervous. For the past like year and half I haven't gone out much because of a personal problem. I'm now finally starting to go out at least once every weekend and party because that's all my friends do. During high school I awlays went out, pretty much every weekend. Ok I'll just tell you what my problen was. For the past 2 years, I was taking prescription pain meds a lot and I got pretty hooked on them so I never went out becuase I wanted to do that. I'm finally clean but I've been trying to adapt to my new lifestyle of going out and being around a lot of people. So going to the bar tomarrow night is a big thing for me. Wish me luck.

I wouldn't go to a gay bar for that exact reason.

Suppose to go tonight but I'm not going. I got too drunk last night and I don't like pulling 2 nighters. I'm still too hung over haha. My friends going to be pissed.

You're 21, you should still have that wolverine like healing factor. I remember back when I was your age....*rants about how much he drank and had to work a 12 hour shift the next day*

When I went on my senior trip we all drank 4 nights in a row. Kind of had to because It was the only thing to do at night, but for some reason my recovery from a nights drinking is going down hill. But I guess that's what happens with age.

Nothing wrong with going your own pace.

@OP Would you say your focus in this whole endeavour would be for the enjoying social aspect or for avoiding a bad drinking experience?

Good, that puts me at ease in understanding what you're really going there for. Now, if it's for the social aspect:

      - What are you aiming to get from the whole experience of going there?
      - What does a "social bar" look like to you? What do you expect the bar to be like?

These questions are as much for my own interesting as they are intended for your benefit, if you haven't considered their responses yet.

You're 21 now and hopefully out of the drink as much as possible mentality, so it should be easier to adjust. If you drink liquor before heading out you could go for a decent beer or something else that isn't too strong - otherwise you'll be paying a lot when at the bar and you might end up losing track of how drunk you're getting.

Well I want to start going out more and meeting new people, so I think a bar would be a good experience for me. And as far as expectations go, I think it depends on what bar I go to. I would expect there would be tables to sit at or a nicer bar with some couches and maybe a dance floor. I just want to meet a chick. I haven't had a girlfreind since sophmore year in high school, and I have kept it that way on purpose so I wouldnt have to be involved in a relationship. But lately I have been getting strong urges to find a girl to be with.

Yea I was definatly planning on drinking a little before going to the bar so that I wont have to pay that much for drinks.

That plan sometimes works well, but when it backfires, it backfires spectacularly. Better make sure you have a DD.

That's your human nature asking you to not lend a hand in letting your species die out. I'm sure you're aware of it but keeping away from relationships is obviously going against your very nature, and as such will (if it hasn't already) create some detriments. I wish not to tell you what to do or that you've been living your life wrong, but rather to make sure you're aware of the paradoxical behaviour you've been exhibiting, and to further reinforce your current behaviour of exploring your own social abilities. They're pretty awesome, so make good use of them. *thumbs up for you*

I predict you'll be fine. But, you won't get anywhere or change your current situation in the slightest until you do make a bold move, "bold" being relative to how your routine goes. For example, I've lived with my parents all my life and have yet to own my own vehicle. Thanks to this and how I was raised, I had a nasty habit of turning down friends' requests to hang out or to stay overnight at their place just to hang out. I realized about a month ago that I didn't have to live in a shell and complain to my friends that I don't get out enough, and now I'm doing something every Friday night when I'm not busy with other things. This was a big, no, huge step for me, and yet it's tiny to the rest of the world's population. Still, that's all it took.

Damn my post got deleted. Better stop looking at porn cuz its slowing down my internet haha. But for the past year I've been living in a shell too. I use to always go out during high school and was always down to do something. I mean, I wasn't the super outgoing type of person, but at least I did stuff. I've been telling myself that I will at least go out every weekend, and so far I've kept my word. It is also a big step for me because I'm not use to going out all the time anymore, but I'm getting use to it. And about the girlfriend thing, I mean its not that I didn't really want a relatioship, its because there was this chick and we both liked eachother, but I screwed the whole thing up. And so after that I kind of tryed and stay away from having a girlfriend. But now now, I look around, and most of my friends have had long term relationships for a while now and I've slowly wanting that too. It picky about girls though haha. I'm always looking for the right one.
