      Migraines

does anyone suffer from these? What are your symptoms?
the textbooks say that symptoms include 'warning signs' such as flashing lights, or patterns before your eyes known as an 'aura' followed by nausea and the actual migraine.
I've just had one, for the first time in months, i used to get them quite regularly, and i was wondering, are the symptoms variable? Because i never get the flashing lights, just the nausea, which i often miss, as putting it down to something else.
And what do you do, if you miss the signs and it hits?

I'm sorry, I have no idea about the symptoms and stuff, but..
If you want to get rid of migraine, go see a certificated acupuncturist.

It works like a charm, I've seen it happen.
      What is your dream?

i'm sure there are varying degrees of migraines. if you're able to, lay down in a dark room and close your eyes. that's what i would do to get them to go away. also, don't look at a computer or tv screen. i found that it strained my eyes, just making the migraines worse.

      take some advil too.
      clear eyes. strong hands.

I get them kinda randomly...without all of the warning signs and such.
Typically I just can't do/eat/think anything so I take two aleve and turn off all the lights in my room and fall asleep for an hour or two. It works most of the time for me.
I'm beginning to think mine are due to stress...but I've heard that it can be something screwy with your brain, so if you're getting one or two+ a month you might wanna call a doctor.

Yeah, I can always tell I'm getting one when I start feeling majorly headachey, but more of a dull ache...

I think it's hereditary, in which case, I got them from my Mother.

Anyway, not being able to do much else, all I can do is what 'cheeser said: turn out all the blasted lights and lay very still. Actually, as awkward as it seems, they're very good sleep aids, as doing all that will help me get to sleep a lot faster than normal, and certainly an incentive to sleep more than anything else.

i see what you mean, about the 'dull' ache...i still have that this morning, and it worries me, in case i get another.
but i daren't take any more painkillers, because they in themselves can give you a headache...

Yeah, (a) painkillers can be addicting, and you don't want that to happen, and (B) frankly, the last thing I want to do when I have a migraine and am feeling mildly nauseous is swallow a pill, even a tiny one.

I don't usually take anything at all, unless my Mom's around to bug me about taking an Advil or an IBU Profen. Otherwise, I just lie down and wait it out...

I take Midrin at migraine onset. You start with two. If it doesn't start going away within an hour you take another. Take up to 5. They usually get rid of the migraine before it takes hold, and they aren't pain killers. I love 'um! That said, I want to try accupunture as well as a preventative. Dana

that's interesting about the acupuncture...i read an article in the Daily Telegraph the other day (a british newspaper) that said acupuncture has very little bearing on migraines, after they did a 'control' test on non-acupuncture sites using needles. The effect was reported about the same...whether you'd had the migraine or not...
I was very worried earlier on today..i thought i was having another...when i started with a dull throbbing headache, and i just thought 'uh oh' Luckily that's gone now...
but i'm trying to remember to read the signs!!
