Thread: 98% Of The Teenage Population Does Or Has Tried Smoking Pot.

I don't do it for the attention, and i'm definately not pure. The only reason i've not tried it is because I never have any money.

98%, I don't believe that, more like 30% or even 40%, heck probly less then that, I'm not from the city or anything, but I know it can't be that high.

I wouldn't have guessed it to be that high either actually. I'd guess at around 50%

My school has a problem with pot and I don't think it would be more than 25%.
I just have the sig in there, because I also have Blue Meanie's

I haven't tried pot, but I don't have that siggy because I too find it braggy, and until we switched forums I didn't have enough siggy space, but I'm pretty sure it's true. The reason being that while yes, in high school it really is only 40% or 50% of people who try smoking pot, from what I hear, almost everyone else tries it in the first year of college because they're now suddenly out of home, and feel as if they can do whatever the hell they want without paying the price.

I think the sig is supposed to be braggy. Why else would it have such an exaggerated number like 98%? It's trying to intice you to "be cool. Be different. Be of the small percentage that doesn't fall in with the rest. Don't smoke pot."

It's propaganda. Nothing more.

it's around 80% in my age group but I'm doing my best it used to be much lower but my friend and I got into a competition to see how many people we could corrupt before college. He's winning by like 10 so mehhh

I agree I think its just to be braggy, I personaly don't see a point in smoking pot as its bad for your health and illegal as well as expensive.

now there's a good argument against smoking pot! stay out of trouble, keep your money, and don't burn your lungs, those are probably the best three reasons to abstain. This whole bit about eventually facing the consequences or risking longterm mental damage is highly exaggerated and misapplied nonsense.

It's totally bragging, and in a way that doesn't make any sense to me at all. By saying that 98% of teens have tried it, and you don't, that sort of makes you a loser and a weirdo who doesn't do something that seems perfectly normal, considering the percentage of people who do it.

A few years back, I heard a thing on NPR about how approximately 50% of college students admitted to having smoked pot at some time. So... where on earth is this 98% number coming from? Did they actually test a good group? I'd like to judge the study itself.

I think the numbers were made up and it's just supposed to be a bragging thing about how "unique" you are. Give me a break. It's not all that unique to abstain from pot or anything else. If you want to make a club, go for it, but get the numbers from a reputable source before you go touting around your status as one of the elite non-smokers.

If you think that 98% of people smoke pot, it's probably better that you DON'T join in, because it would seem you're at a particularly high risk for psychosis and paranoia.

The whole idea about that sig line is the whole 'feeling special' thing. If someone sees that sig line they go 'Hey, I'm in this exclusive 2% of people, I must be special' and paste it. In fact, the vast majority of people have not smoked pot, and so this sig line continues to replicate. If indeed it were only 2% of people that would be able to put that truthfully in their sig, nobody would have it and the thing would've died ages ago. Instead, now more and more people incorporate it. It's annoying if you ask me.

I want a pot siggy too. I'm tempted to put this in my signature...

Yeah....I'd stay away from the coke. I heard coming down is pretty damn rough. And isn't it really expensive?

Hey don't believe all the negative press about drugs, a lot of it's lies. You're right coke is expensive though, but so is weed!

Perhaps that 98% could apply if it was counting normal smoking aswell, as lots of people has tried smoking at least. As for pot, I find this percentage highly unlikely.

Hahaha this is complete carp. Don't forget you need to factor in teenagers in countries. For all we know the person that dug this little fact up took some 19 year old college kids from a very drug infested area of somewhere and gave them some free pot and counted up the statistics. Everyone thanks for your replies. But this is not about investigation because it is obviously bull. Some people already said the right things so just to recap:

The sig is made to be braggy so you can show you're in the exclusive 2%. To show you're a saint and don't belong (or fit in) with the rest of the world.

Now I am not saying this about anyone who has the signature personally, but you can't give another reason why you would put that in your signature other than that.
