Thread: Do You Judge Be The Appearances?

I sometimes have caught myself by judging a fresh met persons mainly by their outer appearance.
You look at someone by the first encounter and you talk to yourself "Oh, that person seems to be so nice, handsome, so velvet voice...and so on."
But in the long run they prove to be of no value or even little bastards capable of everything.

So how is it with this "face value" assessment? Why are we often so wrong with our judgement?

"you cant tell the nature of a man by his apperense" as the king says in Macbeth, before he promptly disrigards it by his greating ot the protaganist.

faces dont show the soul. you cant tell the nature from the shape of the body, though there are exeption.

Well in life you will find out there are two certainties. Number 1 never judge a book by it's cover and B after a certain age you will eventually regress in this department and it all wouldn't matter in the first place.

Oh man, you don't want to know. Sometimes I am just an indredible racist. It kind of pisses me off, becouse I know it is silly, but I just have those prejudices somewhere in my brain.

I think that after the first 30 seconds of looking at some one for the first time you have already judged them.

Either way "don't judge a book by its cover."

I don't judge by appearance. but i DO judge by the vibe people give off.

I can assess within a minute or so wether i want to get to know someone or not.
eg. last night at the bar. Some guy was trying to hang around me acting all nice and shit. He seemed ok, just a little tipsy. I walked to the bar to order my drink and the guy followed me. and kept trying to talk to me. I humored him for a minute and he leaned into me and touched my elbow. I purposefully gave him a "don't you dare touch me look". and he apologised.

my roomate dan said "haha yeah good stuff". and somehow we wound up talking about the vibes we get off people. The drunk guy stood around and leaned into me again and is like "YEAHHH BLA BLA BLA! i agree you gotta act not needy"

I said "Right i agree, generally people like at least 3 ft. of space between other people. notice how uncomfortable it is when i LEAN into you (leaned in exaggerating his movements). Especially when certain people try to TRAP your personal space by going ' HEY! get this! you know what bla bla bla' (again exaggerating his movements)" he looked offended and made an excuse to leave. Dan gave me a high five and we left the bar before the guy could come back.

I was an asshole and told him off indirectly. was it wrong of me to do that? NO! if i had let the guy hang around he would continue to invade our privacy and from his desperation woulda found some excuse to leave with us, smoke weed. etc etc., then hang around and bum money off us. I'm speaking from personal experience here. same with my friend Dan, a few months ago his lack of street smarts got a crack head into our apt. and ripped him off a lot of cash.

Sometimes you HAVE to judge someone right away.

Me too. Some people have completely different personalities than you'd think by looking at them. But I get "vibes" from people, too - by the way they speak to me, eye contact, mannerisms, etc.

It has been fooled before, though I generally agree. There is this guy at my school, and for all I know, he is probably a pritty good guy in some ways, but he I get this feal about him that I dont like. He went out with one of my female friends (I have never had a "girl friend" but 90% (LITTERALY&#33 of my friends are girls) and he really upset her when she found out that he was cheating on her.

Its really sad, though some people I like have also turned ou to suck, and vice versa.

First impression is wrong most of the time .. very hard though to get over that and go talk to this person (again).

Well when you first meet someone you have little to go on and so you judge by the most obvious thing, how they look. Thats why if you know your going to meet someone the first time, you try to look nice. Actually, its a good idea to dress fairly nice any time you go out. Notice that I am talking about clothing though, something people can change. And it doesn't have to be anything fancy, just nice.

If you send the message, "I don't care how I look" people pick it up as you being lazy or a slob and its probably true too.

Exactly. One must remember also that people do carry themselves exteriourlly as well (i think thats a word?.)
Looks will always be important to a degree, if we admit it or not. It's in our primitive blood to recognise bodily features on a subconscious level.

I suppose when you first meet a person looks are all you have to go by. As it's quite hard *not* to make a judgment, I don't suppose it is at all wrong to judge by appearances after all, lest we all be named wicked and shallow.
