Can you say "I Robot"?

Is this technology a good thing or a bad thing?

I have to say that I am very intrigued!

Whether it's good or bad remains to be seen.

Right now it's just cool but.....kinda freaky, actually. o.O

You folks who are only seeing the National Guard ad need to watch for more than 15 seconds, that's all.

Duh it's fake, it's an android. That's kind of the whole point.

I do think it's cool though, in a freaky sort of way.

I don't see how this is so so amazing... the only reason it is life-like is the aesthetic/design quality. The actual abilities of perception don't seem to have any ground-breaking life like qualities to it. I mean... you can hear how clearly they all talked. Any basic computer can do the talking part. For example, speech to text microphones with error-correction, then a "robot" system that comes up with some basic responses that are obvious to that and then a text to speech program that makes him talk. the AIM robot "smarter child" can already respond to what you say... Some basic sensors that detect faces (we have this in like, webcams already MSN has this feature that zooms in on a face). Other basic sensors. Throw some fake skin and get an artist to cover his face up realistically, and program "facial features." Sorry I'm being so cynical, but I don't see why this is so real and great, other than it LOOKS real. MOST "robots" nowadays are not made to look like humans, but they have much much better sensory abilities than this robot does. People just don't find them so amazing because the engineers didn't take into account the aesthetic portion of the robot.

      Hah.

That's awesome. I'm pretty impressed by the speech programming though. It got almost all the voice inflections right.

Agree.. Its nothing special. If it would be a 'rust bucket' whitout the artificial face the most of the users here would think diffrently!

Its all 'if's 'else'es. If someone says that, then you respond with this. It doesent know how to respond to sentences that are not pre-programmed in him. Oh sure.. He will say "I cannot understand you.." which proves my point.

The only life-like thing about him is his smile. Otherwise he's about on a par with that animatronic Abe Lincoln in the local museum.

I think they're already making them. I was watching this program on TV about a month ago, and they were showing off robots that were similar to the one in the clip. Anyway, they had this one robot that looked like a Chinese woman, and they actually programmed her to say, "Hi, I am very beautiful under my clothes." I'm not kidding about this! It kind of makes you wonder what exactly the future of AI is, huh?

wow thats pretty creepy, but i agree with most of you, the actual program itself isnt too impressive, although i have to say the smille and the skin were very lifelike.

I don't have credibility eh? Not that it matters, what I say isn't more right or more wrong because of how much credibility I have or don't have.
