Ok, thanks for the go ahead.

I'd give the deadline for the end of Wednesday, that should be enough time, but let me know if it isn't and we can make it a bit longer.

Also, i will probably not be participating, the reason for this is that i have 5 pieces of coursework to do this week, and i may not have much time at all to do anything else.

Lets just see, but as long as you guys are cool with the timing, i think we should get going on this one.

I'm good with it, but it depends on available time. I'm wrapped up in a mixing project now that needs to be finished before I can do anything.

Okay.. I'll start the ball rolling.

Quote LS: "Recreate an existing piece, but in a different style. The obvious route for this is to get the chord structure to the piece of music and then change them to fit another style whilst still retaining the original melody."

Okay. Tricky, but here goes.. it's a wall-of-sound slow rock-style version of the Christmas Carol "Silent Night". I hope that the melody comes through. Play LOUD.

I like it Oneiro a lot. I love the way you have changed it also, it works very well. Nothing wrong with the Phil Spector approach. I like it though and i love the feel of it.

      Great stuff

      Nice!
I love what you did with those chords. Very dreamy sounding.

      Ok, for mine:
I'm doing a hard rock version of "Ain't No Sunshine;" one of my favorite songs of all time.

Here is the original, for those of you who have never heard it.

      And here's mine:

      Ok, finally finished and uploaded!

The song I chose to re-work was a song that was tragically murdered by it's own success back in the 80's. Overplayed by radio, jukebox in bars, and cover bands, it would eventually make me cringe upon hearing it. So this challenge presented me with a chance to connect with this song again on a more personal level.

As far as style, I originally had one in mind - then by accident I discovered another type of sound that thought about doing. I couldn't choose between which I liked better, so I came up with a third piece that sort of combines both.

I chose to slow the song down and modify the chords while trying tt stick to the general direction of the original melody. I also cut it down from it's original version to keep it short and to the point as possible.
I apologize for the singing, it would pretty much be just rhythm without it.

I thought some of you might want to see how long it takes you to figure out what it is so I won't give away the title. Tornado Joe's DV Guitar wars submission.

Here's the link to the original piece.

I'm going to have to pass this week. Sadly. Too much to do, too little time.

I'm looking forward to voting for somebody other than myself this week without drawing the wrath of Oneironaut!

Hey TJ? Try as I might, I can't get your vid downloaded.. my PC just locks up whenever I try.. maybe it's because I'm on dial-up.. I dunno..

Is there any chance you could upload it somewhere as an mp3?

Any luck with that link, Oneiro? I would suggest a couple things -
      1) download it to your hard drive first (by right clicking)
      2) Make sure you have the QuickTime plug-in installed.

      Hope that helps

Hi TJ.. I've reinstalled Quick Time, checked the plug-in settings and connection speed, and still nothing happens.. when I right click on the Q symbol. everything goes live except the "download this link" bit. An enigma. "Download this movie" doesn't work either, although it appears "live". I just don't know why it won't work.

I don't have the latest version of Quicktime.. maybe that's got something to do with it? I had a look and it's a 30-odd meg download, which on my dial-up PC would take forever.

Any ideas? Could you upload an mp3 on putfile? I'd really like to hear your stuff.

Ah yes, the latest version is probably necessary (I think I encoded it with the ACC compression).

The reason why I don't upload mp3 is simply due to file size - only place I have access to host (for free) has a 1MB file limit. Let me see what I can do. I know there's site dedicated for uploading music without the need to sign up.

**EDIT** ok, I found a place to host. Here's the MP3 of the song (quality may have suffered a bit, but whatever). If you're on dial-up, I recommend pausing the piece for a few seconds to let it buffer.

Well TJ.. I get the same window.. that says that I need to upload the new QT version.. so I'm biting the bullet and downloading it. Gonna take 1 1/2 hours.. but what the hell. Thanks for your efforts.. and I do look forward to hearing your sounds in about an hour and a half! Cheers.

What??! No way, it's an mp3! Besides, I thought the site used it's own player (Flash?). I wonder if your computer is set to open mp3's in QT by default or something. You should be able to play it in Media Player (assuming you're on a PC). Might not hurt to make sure you got the latest Flash player as well (only a couple MB download I think).

Well, either way - really sorry you're having so much trouble. I do appreciate your persistence, though. I just hope you find the effort worthwhile
