Yeah...it wasn't until I picked up my guitar again, yesterday, that I noticed it had somehow been knocked slightly out of tune. It had been like that since before I uploaded my track, and I realized that that was why the parts in the beginning, when I was trying to harmonize two strings at once, sounded like shit.

I wish I would have caught it earlier.

pj and TJ, i must beg to differ, yes it is long, but its interesting to see how far people can take their solos. I did a 20 minute improvisation for this battle of the bands thing we had going in college, it was hard but i learned a lot about widening my range and using repetition when appropriate, however, it is not evident in my recording, i would call it a bad take if you ask me, i could have done much better.

Okay, i'll upload it to that now, its been a pain in the arse uploading this, i tried about 5 different places and it failed every time.

Give me a moment.

EDIT - Nope it won't upload for some reason, i haven't got an mp3 converter on this stupid mac, i can only have it in some weird formats. So until i can find an mp3 converter, i don't know what to do. The only solution is to convert it to .wav, but that is a very open format which takes up lots of space as a result, mine is 35mb as a .wav and putfile has a 25mb cap on what you upload.

I might as well give it a miss this week if its going to be this much trouble to upload the damn thing.

Wow, i thought it was the other way round, i thought that the guitar was hard to hear

Yeah, i did it though the built in mic. Its bad quality i know, but it should have picked up the backing track more.

Ah well, whats done is done, lets see how it goes down with everyone else, thanks a lot.

I like the whole backtrack solo thing. Not suggesting it for next week, as we could use some variation, but I'm just saying I find the backtracking very enjoyable.

Okay, here is next weeks task, this is an idea i have, so i want approval of everyone before actually going ahead with it. Plus it would be good to know if we are going to redo that blues one that we cancelled last week. Let me know.

Task

Recreate an existing piece, but in a different style. The obvious route for this is to get the chord structure to the piece of music and then change them to fit another style whilst still retaining the original melody.

For example, its like turning Van Halens Panama from a rock piece to a jazz piece. Obviously you are going to have to work with an existing piece of music and work on it. The complexity of the piece is completely up to you, but at the end of the day the result we are looking for is the piece which has been changed in the right ways that it matches the chosen style in many ways, but also allows you to hear the original melody. Its much better if you change as much as you can to the piece because it will be more impressive overall.

We are working with just chords this week, so no soloes or multi-tracks. Just one recording of your changed version of your chosen piece. Extra tracks could be seen as an advantage above others. This week will test to see how well you can adapt to different genres and work within their boundaries.

So by whenever, i need a changed piece of music in which you are doing the chords for along with the name of the genre you picked. Please try to stretch the boundaries with this from the piece you choose. For example, don't turn a rock piece into a heavy metal, its not broad enough, i'm looking for a bigger jump overall that really breaks out of the usual boundaries.

What are your thoughts?

So.. guys.. what's the concensus on next week's task? LS has already posted a suggestion: take a piece of original music and do a version of it in a different stylee.. personally, I'm up for it. What does everyone else think?
