I like the olympics for the most part, but some of the sports seem kind of pointless... one example off the top of my head is trampoline jumping.

Here's a cool medal tracker if you want to see how many medals each country has.

OMG, those judges are really having problems in gymnastics, aren't they!! And especially after tonight.

Squall, what do ya mean.. do you think he should have gotten a higher or a lower score?

Hehe, yeah, trampoline jumping sounds kind of pointless.. but I watched a little bit of it a few days ago, and it looked tough. It was like doing gymnastics while constantly in the air.

He should have gotten a 9.7 something. Maybe it's because I'm not a expert at gymnastics but his routine just didn't look that complicated. Especially compared to the others. I actually think Morgan did better.

(And what happened with that Russian guy? Geez they gave him such a low score.)

Yah I know, poor Russian guy.. I don't know that much about gymnastics either, but the only thing I can come up with is that they look for routines that have a lot of variety. The Russian guy did mainly releases (which were all awesome), whereas Paul Hamm did releases as well as twisty turny things. Meh.

All I can say right now is:

      GO ANA GUEVARA!!!!

Win that race!!! You are our only hope!!!!

WIN FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE, WE NEED ONE MEDAL!!!!
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

OK the thing about last night's gymnastics was really bad judging all the way through even on the womens floor routines. But in the mens high bar I think the russian should have started off with a way better score and that the crowd shouldn't have had to boo that long or at all. Another thing, you gotta think about paul hamm. He has had to be put on hold when he was mentally ready and waiting and listening to the crowd only can mess him up. He waited 5-10 minutes of booing just to get up there and almost do a perfect routine at a lower difficulty. And then in the tiebreakers both hamms were put down.

I couldn't believe what I saw last night with those gymnastics routines. First off...way to go to Paul for being able to focus and do an absolutely great routine while the audience was booing and whistling. Secondly...this is the god darn olympics!!! These judges should be professional! Alexei Nemov SOOO deserved a higher score....he should have at least medaled that is just plain insane. So the audience boos and hisses...and the judges change their scores. It didn't make a bit of difference though, it just discredited them for giving him a terrible score to begin with. Yeah, he took a big step on the landing but that was an amazing routine.

Those Romanians are incredible. Marian should have gotten a 10 on that vault! (I love him by the way ) Those damn judges just couldn't give it to him!!

Oh yeah...that Russian Svetlana chick really has a stick up her ass saying that she got screwed out of a medal and she would have won if she was American. Maybe she wouldn't be so cranky if she ate something!

It is against the rules to award a second gold medal to Yang Tae-Young so the only way he would get one is if Paul gives it to him, and Paul says that he isn't going to give it up unless someone asks him too.

So now I hear that the Russians are going to appeal Alexei's score for the high bar routine and Svetlana's scores in the all-around, this is turning into a farce.

      Sorry I had to vent...

Watching the Olympics creates so many different emotions.

I mean the commentators we have get so envolved you get amped to extreme levels. The 100m mens final was amazing, the sheer human strength and determination they show is unbelievable. It truly captures our ability to suceed, and displays that life is good.

I hope some other viewers who watch events like these are filled with what i felt and would call, happiness, awe and love, for the effort and pride on the faces of these heroes.
Sure they might not be helping sick kids around the world, donating blood or making money for charity, but that's not what they do, they perform to break human limits, to show that we can do anything.

I can watch the clip of that race in slow motion with the music/commentry, and it moves me like never before, as much as the people that fail i don't think it's about medals, it's about the feeling.
      n00bs i love you

Well said...and for some reason this particular olympics has been alot more emotional for me than any other. I agree with you about the feeling...I always get teary eyed when someone nails a routine b/c you can feel their happiness and pride and also when someone falls or fails while giving it their all b/c you know how hard they've worked and everything they've struggled for just slipped through their fingers.

Aww, yeah.. I get teary eyed no matter who wins.

I'm actually not so sure Svetlana said those things, because I was watching an interview with her, and what she said in Russian only matched the English translation like 50% of the time. But she did not match her reputation this year, and yeah.. EAT SOMETHING!

I totally agree, the scoring was shocking. Everyone could tell who deserved what score, except for the judges.

even though its not about winning..

how cool is it that australia is so high on the medal tally. compared to our population, we're doing really well. i know the population thing gets used heaps, but we have 16 gold or something.

yay, i'm glad to be an aussie. ^^

I think its cool that US has more golds than bronze. And that we have so many, but then again a lot of people dislike the US for that so i really don't care who wins altho of course i go for the US, but if someone else wins i am still happy.

I could respect the US team more if they didn't cheat so much.

I can't understand why the American media has ignored the fact that Carl Lewis has failed numerous drug tests throughout the years. They still hail him as an American hero and one of the greatest athletes ever.

EDIT: Or maybe I'm just bitter that Canada only got 12 medals this year....we suck.

Oh speaking of Canada, there was that one Canadian gymnist who won a gold medal in the individual competitions.. I was so happy for him, cuz it's really cool to see a country get a gold in some category for the first time. Yayness. Yes, and go Australia!!! Aussies seem very good at swimming, too.. quite the competition, they are.

I don't get how a bigger population means more gold medals. I mean, if half of the people were American and they all sucked, then of course they wouldn't win. I don't see how quantity is supposedly prevailing over quality here. And plus, the Olympics are supposed to unite countries and let everyone share a bit of fun. I'm happy for whoever wins, because the winners deserve it.

I don't/didn't give a damn about the olympics. I'm not very gymnastic. I've got burns from sitting on this chair 95% of the day.
