What language would you like to learn?

This is simple. Just say the language you want to learn and why.

First, say the one you want to learn overall.

Then say a unique language that you would also like to learn. They may both be the same. You don't need to explain this one if you don't want to. Your comment on the language can be anything you want, from why, to how you are learning it, etc.

      For example:

      1. French. It has a wonderful aesthetic, and I might end up living in France one day. Make that most likely. Things may be a little strange in Paris, but there are many interesting people that follow their own artistic pursuits there.

      2. Arabic. I am currently starting on Arabic now, and it looks to be a very interesting language. I just wish things were not so chaotic in the Middle East now. I really don't want to be the dead white man. Maybe I can put my calligraphy to the test by writing it, too.

Feel free to respond to other people's posts (positively)

      Great thread, Vance.

I find Japanese to be rather interesting. It's basically Chinese, but without the tones and less unique characters to memorise. But maybe I'll learn Chinese one day in the future.

I've also been attracted to Finnish recently. It sounds quite lively and bouncy to my ears. Also, its big load of cases make it even more fun.

Maybe I'll end up learning every language in existence. That's one of my over-ambitious life goals.

French - It's a beautiful language and I love basically everything about it. The way it looks, the way it sounds. I also plan to live in France some day.

I'd like to learn Japanese as well. It just sounds more beautiful than French to me. I can understand some of it thanks to Dattebayo's Naruto Shippuden subbing, and if I listen to some phrases long enough, I can say them without mistakes. It's also very easy for me to learn Japanese songs, so I figure I can learn the language.

I also took a class of it, but my parents wouldn't get go on to the 102 class. But I'm saving up for Rosetta Stone. (That is if my parents aren't already planning to get for me for my birthday or Christmas.)

One thing I learned when I went to Mexico is that I'm officially bilingual. Spanish for the win, baby.

Spanish is generally the most important second language to learn for us in the U.S. for obvious reasons. And I don't plan on seeing any brazilian or french canadian people anytime soon. I know enough spanish to get around and understand basically what people are saying but I wouldn't call myself bilingual. They just speak WAY too fast.

For interesting, I would want to learn Lithuanian because I am Lithuanian. There is also a little neighborhood in Chicago I can test it out on. And to tell you the truth, I find French an ugly language. It sounds stuck up and there are too many hock-a-loogie sounds. I think Italian and South American spanish (I can't stand the lisp in Spain) are more appealing to the ears.

I would love to learn French and Spanish if they would stop making inanimate objects have gender. That adds a whole lot of unnecessary B.S. to memorize because nouns are generally preceded by le or la in French and el or la in Spanish. Until they get rid of that silly element, I don't want to know those languages.

What about Latin? Very useful and interesting language, not to mention a mark of an educated mind.

Japanese- The language is very interesting to me, like the Japanese culture itself. I want to travel there one day as I do with many other countries of interest to me.

Arabic- It sounds like a fascinating language, and it's one of the many new culture of growing interest to me.

I'm currently in the process of teaching myself German. You'd be surprised how many words are more or less the exact same thing as in English, except pronounced differently. Only other language I would love to learn is Spanish, just so I can spend at least one eventful day in Madrid.

Theres no dream like the dream of reality.

I started German, but never finished. It was just a little boring, I suppose. It shounds sh** scary when you are angry though.

I took a bunch of Spanish and German already, but I flip flopped in between the two for years so I never really made it past intermediate German. But everything in German just sounds angry regardless of if you're angry or not. I think that makes it one of the most badass languages. If I wasn't already committed to learning Spanish, I'd learn German. I've always thought Japanese would be a cool language to learn, but not having a common alphabet makes it look really hard. I'd have to learn how to write all over again. Maybe once I master Spanish and German I'll take up Japanese

      Does Klingon count?
I heard someone speak it once, and I was rather perplexed and creeped out.

      Google - Klingon version

      Fuck Dattebayo.

That said, I too am slowly learning Japanese. I've been doing little manga translations here and there to learn, and have enjoyed it quite a bit. Found some good resources too.

If I ever learn this to a level where I can speak it enough to "get by", then I may move onto a 3rd language, but for now, I'm sticking with Japanese.

That's the funniest thing I've heard all day seriously, that had me cracking up. I should learn just the translation of that in random languages.

Im working on Chinese right now. and know english and spanish, hurray. lol. but to learn..I would have to pick old welsh or finnish or gaelic because those sound so epic. Given the choice, Idk which I would pick.

You think 2 noun classes are bad, you should try Swahili. There are around 16 classes of nouns, and you have to make everything agree correctly It is a real treat, let me tell you.
