Your Family History - Enlighten Us.

I thought this would be a pretty good topic since I haven't seen any remotely similar to it (aside from the state your famous relatives thread ) so I'll go first.

In the 1800's there was a white, blonde hair blue eyed man named Andrew Thomas. He owned hundreds and hundreds of acres of land in Mississippi and ran a business with his land called "Sunny Side Plantations". He was a very big slave owner. Andrew Thomas had a white wife and a black mistress. He and his white wife conceived one child...a daughter. He and his black mistress conceived 3 children, 2 of them female, one male. Upon his death he divided his land up and split it evenly between his four children. A lady named Millie was one of his mulatto children...the lineage I come from. Today, my family still owns a shit load of land that's zoned as residential property. We're currently deliberating on whether we want to build apartment complexes back there, summer camps, neighborhoods etc... We own about 80 acres of land in my grandfather's name (the rest was split through the cobwebs of andrew's children's other descendants). I have a host of distant white relatives because of this...namely some Fox's in Clinton. There's a white woman named Terry Fox whose a prominent lawyer in our city so we're (I and my aunt) are going to try to reach out to our distant relatives sometime soon That is from my dad's side of the family, I don't know too much about my mom's side except that we came from a native american whom they called "Big Red", as in red indian. That's my family history.

Here is our family crest, it's centuries old.

The Harper coat of arms came into existence centuries ago. The process of creating coats of arms (also often called family crests) began in the eight and ninth centuries. The new art of Heraldry made it possible for families and even individual family members to have their very own coat of arms.

Now share your history with us! You don't have to be related to Lee Harvey Oswald or anything Just share what you know. And it can't be like your history from your grandfather on down...it has to go back a good bit of time. It can lead up to your grandfather on down but make it go as far back as you can.

I have been performing extensive research into my ancestral backgrounds
& have come across some rather disturbing results going back as far as I can.

My grandfathers grandfather was a full-blooded Jew living in Germany when Hitler rose up. During the time when his people were oppressed and Jew's were encouraged to leave the country, (encouraged being a very light word for it,) he changed his name to a non-Jewish one and feld to America. (Jewish people weren't really wanted in America at the time.)

He made it and avoided the holocaust. He married an Irishwoman and they had a few kids, (my grandfahter included,) who ended up living in California and had a child of his own.

My grandfather than married married a woman who's father was a significant member in a certain Italian organization which I am not at liberty to disclose. My grandparents were actually offered a house by him as a wedding gift, but they denied it not wanting affiliation with anything bought with that kind of money.

Then my father was born in California, moved to Colorado, and met my mother, (West Virginia native,) at a Christain college.

      Well, there you go.

My family history as far as can be traced. (My grandfathers grandfather destroyed all records of his heritage so we know nothing prior to that. And we know little about the Irishwoman he married.)

It did make me laugh out loud, though.

      Fathers side.

Well I don't know much about my fathers side.

My grandfather had lots of brothers and sisters, he spent his life working hard so they could all go to school. My grandfather's father (my great G) was a play boy bachelor (full blooded)irish doctor with lots of money. One day he disappeared, he was just gone. No one knows what happen, some speculate he ran out on his family.

On my mothers my grandfather had black servants...and whatever time period there were slaves in they had slaves.

I've never really studied up on my family history, some family members have but I've never asked them about anything really. I do know dating back to the Civil War times though I was kin to a guy that lived around here that appearently was really mean while he lived during the war and after, and even after he was dead people were afraid to mention his name. A real life Voldemort! I'll try to look more into my history and edit the post later.

Well I don't know much about my mom's side. Her dad owned a liquor company and was pretty much a entreprenuer that made his fortune in the stock market and with other investments. She's mixed Welsh, Black Irish, German and English

My Dad step father got captured in WW2, and was part of a massive prison escape, after which he worked as a liaison between the Roosevelt administration and the French underground.

My dad's real father was norwegian noble that died of heart failure after leaving his family, going back to Norway and starting a whole new family there, so I have other distant relatives to my grandfather. There's a family crest for him, too, but I don't know where it is. Besides norwegian, my dad is also Dutch and English.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

I think I had a great-grandpa who was a rum-runner and ran a house of whores, he was killed when a car hit him a dragged him for a few 100 yards or so...

That's the only cool thing I can think of off hand

my grandma was a child while she was fleeing germany, my great grandpa had been smart enough to keep moving through the citys because it took only a day after they left each city for it to be bombed. she fleed from the carpathen mountains al the way to the coast. to were they got on a boat and sailed to america.

she married my grandpa who owns a old land grant that his family's been able to hold on to for over 300 years, the great depression caused them to sell thousands of acres so now we only have a 100. this piece of land is my heritage, its out in the willipa hills for the hills are like mountians. a river snakes through it and huge trees dominating everywhere. I hunt here every year and i have a large understanding of mushrooms thanks to my grandma.

i hardly know anything of my dads side, just a long line of docters that vary (3 worked on humans my dad on horses).

There's so much that I don't know about my family but I recently found out that my dad's father's father (I state it this way for the obvious reason) served in WWI. I was able to locate his enlistment slip through public military records. He was 19. I wish there was more I knew about him because he's the reason why there's land being passed around in the family (no one wants to pay the land taxes, LOL). A bit of history about the land; it's in Jasper and Magnolia Springs, TX and is allegedly either a tract of Seminole or Caddo land. I'm light-skinned so I assume there's been some "race-mixing" in my family (I'm Black) but there's is nothing that I know for sure about who and when. One thing I've always fantasized about was being a descendent of Black Seminoles. It would be cool to be kin to an historic figure. Sadly, if I am actually a descendent, it's almost impossible to know because there are so few Black Seminole descendents left. Guess I'd better get that genealogy DNA test everybody's doing nowadays.
