Asteroid Passes Close to Earth

Article I find it kind of unsettling that it wasn't even spotted until late last week.

I also understand the small portion of the cosmos that we're able to monitor, at any time. I can't say that I'm surprised that they didn't spot it. But it's just one of those things you never wanna hear about how close it came, without being spotted. The idea is frightening enough, but for it to be confirmed just makes is all the more creepy.

Of course I hope and pray that it misses, but I just want to see how close it's actually going to get. Sometimes I doubt they should even tell us these things. Why scare the living bejesus out of us? We already know we could get hit by a major asteroid and get wiped out any time...sorta. Yeah, I'm on the fence about that, too. I mean there are plenty of us who can take that kind of news in stride, but there are so many of us who would (or do) just go into panic, knowing how close these things actually come.

Apophis is full of fail. I wouldn't say that, Apophis is sure to give us a very nice light show. It's trajectory will definately come up for re-calculations after it's first near encounter in 2029. At this time right now Apophis is no longer a threat on the Torino Scale. But there is one other on the Torino scale that is actually categorized as threat level 1 for NEO's. Threat Level 1 A routine discovery in which a pass near the Earth is predicted that poses no unusual level of danger. Current calculations show the chance of collision is extremely unlikely with no cause for public attention or public concern.
