      The Stock Market

      So who here is investing in the stock market? I am. And I'm doing quite well with it too.

      Nice. How many round lots do you have and in which companies do you have them in?
      Things are not as they seem

      My family has had stock in US Bancorp since the Great Depression, or at least that's the way the story goes. Grandpa kept all of his money in USB and kept the bank from going under, so they gave him stock.

      We were rolling in money for the past few years, but they slashed their dividends to pay off the bailout loan. We're waiting for them to come out from under tarp and start paying again.

      Right now I have 200 shares in BAC (Bank of America) and 100 shares in C (Citigroup). C isn't doing any good right now, but its' all for long term. In the past four months or so I've made over $700.

      How much capital did you have to invest in the first place to get that $700 return, Phrisco?

      I pulled out when George Bush became president, best financial decision I ever made. I still own some Disney stock, but not much. I will renter the market when the war in Iraq ends, as that's when the economy will start going back up.

      Capital=Money

      How can you not know how much money you have invested?

      For all we know you could have invested $1000 for a $700 return over four months.

      Ok, calm down. I might have spent more than I've received, but that will change. It just takes time, that's why I'm doing it long term.

      It's all about the bonds, baby. Sure, less imediate gratification. But gradual returns are not only better in the long run, they are more profitable from a taxes standpoint. Get a bond from the right place and you can feel good about a stable investment where you can count on the amount of money that you will make, you aren't just rolling dice. You will get your interest, your residuals, and your principle all back in cold hard cash baby.

      Bonds. It's all about the bonds.

      Converted all to dollarz too, but I'm currently purchasing stock at an option price of 35p (57¢). I buy £150 ($245) worth each month. Current price is 70p ($1.14) and rising - it's a 3 year option, so should hopefully make a killing at the end. Simple maths really: 150 x 12 x 3 / .35 = 15,428 shares after 3 years

      You can work out what you're going to make from your initial £5,400 ($8,823) investment. If the share price remains 70p ($1.14) that's £10,799.60 ($17,645) so double my money, if as predicted it returns to the average price it's been which is £1.60 ($2.60) then that's £24,684.8 ($40,334) - but it's all a gamble, one I'm willing to take.
