My theory: |

I believe you are absolutely right. I've only grown close to a few teachers and in each of those classes I wanted to do really well out of mutual respect, and their interest in my progress. Now I'm in college and my class has built relationships with our professors to where they actually come out and drink with us! It's great! Then again, with my major it's alot easier because we have the same people in class everyday for 5 years. |

So how do i develop this theory to help kidkind? |

You don't, everybody had this one figured out ages ago. |

heh, yeah but you have to form a relationship without lookign like a teachers pet/geek/nerd/suck-up or whatever else the ignorant kids would call you. So such a thing is kind of socially threatening. |

Yes, i know about that but what if we taught all kids that it was OK to do that? Well the next generation at least..... |

Personally, I don't think it's a good idea for younger kids to try and form a buddy-buddy relationship with a teacher. There's the social aspect where many kids become jealous and there's the posibility of the teacher's grading policy being altered out of favoratism. Now I'm not saying that would happen in every instance, but it's a posibility. In college - and high school to some degree - I think it's fine for a person to become friends with their teacher. It can be useful on both ends, with the student possibly gaining extra help and the teacher could learn more about what goes on inside of their class and how he could teach it better. I mean, when I have time to I like to go to Russian club and even though the focus is supposed to be on "speaking Russian" with others, we often just sit around - me, other students, and the teacher - and chat, making it fun. |
