WTF?! Haz has a theory?! Is that even possible?

      My theory:

If a child earns a relationship with a teacher (an actual friend relationship, not a teacher-student relationship)
that will mean the child will work better in class because of the respect of the teacher

Questions, comments, criticisms? Don't be threatened to post

I believe you are absolutely right. I've only grown close to a few teachers and in each of those classes I wanted to do really well out of mutual respect, and their interest in my progress. Now I'm in college and my class has built relationships with our professors to where they actually come out and drink with us! It's great! Then again, with my major it's alot easier because we have the same people in class everyday for 5 years. But definitely try to build teacher relationships...be a suck up, see your teacher as a real person, not some scary parental figure, and don't be afraid to shoot the shit with them. For real, it pays off.

heh, yeah but you have to form a relationship without lookign like a teachers pet/geek/nerd/suck-up or whatever else the ignorant kids would call you. So such a thing is kind of socially threatening.

Probably because it's hard to like someone who buries you in schoolwork, homework and tests.

Personally, I don't think it's a good idea for younger kids to try and form a buddy-buddy relationship with a teacher. There's the social aspect where many kids become jealous and there's the posibility of the teacher's grading policy being altered out of favoratism. Now I'm not saying that would happen in every instance, but it's a posibility. In college - and high school to some degree - I think it's fine for a person to become friends with their teacher. It can be useful on both ends, with the student possibly gaining extra help and the teacher could learn more about what goes on inside of their class and how he could teach it better. I mean, when I have time to I like to go to Russian club and even though the focus is supposed to be on "speaking Russian" with others, we often just sit around - me, other students, and the teacher - and chat, making it fun.

P.S. I was the biggest brown-noser in high school, but there was nothing wrong with that. Those are useful skills in the real world!

Its not that unlike the boss/employee scenario, except that theres no direct education involved.
I usually have great relationships with my direct superior
I've invited my current project manager over for drinks a few times and we have long discussions about lucid dreams, machine learning and telekinesis

Sure, for some people that causes a problem when it comes to the work environment, but thats usually when the employee starts taking unfair advantage of the buddy-buddy situation
