Yeah but. |

I signed it. |

As did I. |

Things are not as they seem
Lifting the ban would be dumb. They'd only make a quick buck before all the population were destroyed. |
Yeah, my piano keys are made of ivory lol. |
This makes me sad. D: |
What's upsetting is that I'm noticing a recent trend of environmental backlash (like trying to ruin the Clean Air Act, lifting hunting restrictions even in my own state, etc), when we should in fact be pressing on for more significant progress. |

Heh, the elephant in that picture has cut off tusks too. |

Why are elephants so significant? |

I'm all for saving elephants, but lifting hunting restrictions on species that are not endangered isn't so bad. I'm curious as to why you guys (tommo and Deery) think otherwise. |
Ah, jeez, I dunno, maybe because it's pointless? |
NOT U > .< |

Yeah, that's one example. And I think bears do the same too in Canada. But that's OUR fault. WE invaded their territory in the first place. I spose as long as the animals are not endangered, are threatening lives/property, and the bodies are used for dog food or something, then that's ok. The "not endangered" thing is probably the most important. Because then when humans become way too overpopulated, we still couldn't kill animals who's habitats we've invaded again. Of course this won't be a law, we're gonna end up invading every square inch of the planet, but I'm just hypothetically if that were a law or something. |
The reality is that the people making money off ivory will do so regardless of whether it is illegal of not. They poach the elephants and sell the ivory on the black market, probably for more then what they would if it was legally sold. This is all happening in very undeveloped areas of Central Africa. People are doing what they have to in order to eat, and the country can not afford to enforce these laws. |
Yeah but most people won't bother to buy ivory if it's illegal. Only very rich, selfish people. |
Or, if they are endangered, it's because of other natural environmental factors which has made hundreds of thousands of species extinct long before we were even around. |

"Take atheism, for example. Not a religion? Their pseudo-dogmatic will to convert others to their system of beliefs is eerily reminiscent of the very behavior they criticize in the religious."
