      Spider!!

Ugh... night before last, I was lounging on my couch, propped against a body pillow, covered and playing Civ on my DS.
I felt a tickle on my right shoulder and I casually glanced down thinking it was nothing more than another stray hair.

To my horror, a furry, stout and sizable brown spider was crawling across my skin as if he hadn't a care in the world.

My first instinct was to FREAK THE HECK OUT... but I slowly moved my body so the spider would get onto the pillow. Then I placed the pillow against the bookshelf next to my "bed". He quickly ran under the shelf but I grabbed my Almond and Honey Body Spray and zapped him three times.
He curled into a ball and fell in a space unreachable.

      *shudders*

I don't think he was a Brown Recluse but I got a major case of the heebiejeebies none-the-less

Just thought I'd share this to help everyone get to sleep

Paper plates are usually easier to get them on, in my experience at least.

Ahaha...you sound just like me. Except I usually experience some sort of paralysis when I first encounter a spider. I can't move for several seconds. Major arachnaphobia. Although I have once jumped out of a moving vehicle (that I was driving) because a spider descended upon me when I pulled the vanity mirror/sun blocky thing down. I left my poor sister sitting in the passenger seat screaming at me. But usually if I find a spider in my house I zap it with the first spray thing I can grab...perfume and hair spray work best. Also really thick dictionaries work wonders too. I throw the book on top of the spider...then stand on top of the book. A few times. Leave it there for three days (just to make sure). And eventually get up enough courage to lift the book and clean up the dead body.

Those of you saying to take the spider outside...hahaha...yeah, you come to my house and take care of that for me, thanks. I think the only thing that gets worse treatment than spiders in my house are centipedes. *shudders* Sometimes I have to hit those goddamn things about fifty times with a magazine before they finally die, especially if they are on carpet.

Interesting that you mention this spider experience, Zhaylin, because I just shared (in my DJ) an experience that I had yesterday with spiders which was:

It was a beautiful day yesterday, so I was outside working in the yard. I picked up a bag of potting soil and carried it half way across the yard. I then flipped the bag over to find a big Black Widow spider on the back. The second bag of potting soil also had a Black Widow on it. I felt tickly and creepy for the rest of the day. I'm suprised that I didn't have my recurring Black Widow nightmare last night.

And also Man of Shred had a dream two nights ago that I turned into a giant Spider Queen and was eating flies.

And Aquanina...spiders in the car...Aaaaa. I'm very thankful I haven't had that experience yet.

Hmmm... too much spider talk...every tickle makes me jump.

hahaa! I think I've found a kindred spirit

When I said it fell somewhere unreachable... well... it fell between the bookcase in my "room" and the couch in the living room and into some papers. (I don't have a real room, just an area divided by curtains.) It was "unreachable" to me because there was no way in hades I was going to go through the papers until at least a couple days had passed
I couldn't reach a shoe and the spray was closest. But, for me, anything will do.

I'm weird about spiders. I could use an education, but there's so many different variations I'm afraid of making a mistake. They scare me because they're unknown and I fear a bite. But daddy longlegs and the likes don't bother me at all. If I steel myself, I can let one crawl across me.
It fat, HAIRY spiders, or spiders with sharp looking legs or bodies that scare me.

I once jumped out of a car too, but thankfully, I parked first. I got stuck in a rut while driving and had to inch my 2-wheel drive vehicle out of thick brush and weeds. The weirdest spider I had ever seen hitched a ride. I saw it on my odometer panel. My first instict was to get it the heck out of my car, but then I wanted to catch it to find out what it was. It got away because I realized I was in the parking lot of a policeman, he was mowing his lawn, and I was looking rather hysterically odd

For what it was worth, the spider was basically harmless. Here's it's pic I found while researching:

      **EDIT**
      VERY cool TwoShadows.
I once dreamed I was a spider. It was a very interesting dream but didn't ease my discomfort of the creature in the slightest lol

      ***Edit***
Unless I'm feeling particularly lazy or cowardly, I always try to catch critters and release them outside. A paper plate and a cup is my preferred method.

That is a weird looking spider, Zhaylin. Both creepy and cool looking. I've never seen one like that before.

Here is a picture of my spider from yesterday. (Well, not the same exact one. I forgot to take a picture yesterday. For some reason taking pictures of spiders helps me deal with them. Like, at least I get something positive out of the experience. BTW, I have lots of Black Widow pictures, if that tells you something.)

      Spoiler for spider pics:

      UGH...I hate bugs in general.

They invade regularily in my dreams, too!

I would've sprayed stuff too at the spider! But not nice perfume...maybe shampoo if it is in the bathroom! Which, I have done before. I make my dad get the bugs . I like it when I can do it myself, though, by them being in my shower and rushing water on them to get them down the drain!
If you see a strange typo in my post, blame my iPad for that.

They are just experiencing life as spiders. We are experiencing life as human beings. No one had a choice in the matter, and our use of power against living things smaller than ourselves and beyond the range of threat says some interesting things about us. Life and death situations however are understandable, but occur very rarely with bug experiences.

My house two houses ago was a brown recluse haven. I killed four of them in two years. Two of the ones I killed were in my bedroom. I saw a documentary that said if a dangerous spider gets on your body, stay calm and let it walk off of you. If you freak out, it will bite. A brown recluse looks like this...

      Spoiler for brown recluse:

Notice the violin image on its head. That is the trademark sign that a spider is a brown recluse. The other really dangerous spider in the United States is the black widow. They are easily identifiable.

      Spoiler for black widow:
How do you know you are not dreaming right now?

      Hehe.

I'm cool with spiders. But I get freaked out over ants. So I can understand.

That last one was so fat because it had just eaten a whole caterpillar. It was so full and sluggish that it could barely move. That's why I was brave enough to put my finger so close to it in the picture. I wanted to use that for size comparison. It really was one of the biggest Black Widows I've seen.

Look...you can see my reflection on its back. (and the reflections of its own legs...I think that's pretty cool.)

Spoiler for another black widow pic:
