If you have 3 red lights, at one point so many Xboxs were having this problem, that every Xbox with a hardware problem(3 lights) has gotten an extended warranty. I believe that because of this extended warranty you are valid for a repair. I would recommed you file for a repair and send it in to Microsoft. I heard that if you have a light problem they send you a whole new Xbox with some sort of compensation(often Xbox live). Often these new Xboxs are tested vigorously to make sure that they will not break, or if you are lucky like my friend was, you will get one of the Xboxs that Microsoft plays on with a special faceplate and stuff. Anyway, just go to xbox.com, go to the repair section and fill out a repair. I am pretty sure that this way you get the most out of this situation and they often return your 360 within 14-21 days, and they provide a way to track it online.
