Going to get some Melatonin today

I will be out today, so Im going to stop by the local WalMart and buy some Melatonin. Melatonin is proven to effect parts of the brains activity that has to do with dreaming ( like REM, Sleeping Longer, etc )..

I've been reading a lot of claims from different sources that Melatonin also helps reach Lucidity / become aware you're dreaming ( Im sure this varies from person to person )

I've also heard this supplement, can aid in more vivid, real dreams along with dream recall? Anyone here have these positive effects?

I know it won't work for everyone, and that's because some people have enough Melatonin produced within their brain. And those people who take Melatonin supplements will more than likely just fall asleep fast and not have any effects.

Also how much should I take? I'm about 6 ft 3, and 250lbs. I know they come in 5mg tabs. ( I take Percocet, in 5mg doses and usually take 4 - 6 at a time without any bad side effects :Well, not bad to me lol:. I am prescribed it for my knee, and it says take 4 a day for pain.. and I just choose to take them all at once, because 1 or 2 dont work anymore ).

And yes, I did a search, but couldnt really find the info I was looking for.

Thanks alot in advance guys, I really appreciate all the help

I have recently been taking melatonin just for the sole purpose of getting a good nights rest for school. But I have recalled having more vivid dreams than usual. Dang I really need to get back into lding.

I know I read a lot around here about people taking huge amounts of melatonin, but I don't think it's really necessary. If I understand correctly, the main mechanism of action is that it delays REM sleep so later in the morning when the melatonin wears off will experience REM rebound. (It also helps you to have a reeeally good sleep too!

Only 300mcg can be sufficient just to improve sleep, but as far as dreaming is concerned even 1 or 2 mg's can be plenty. I'd suggest starting at 1 or 2 mgs and see how you go, increasing if necessary. You don't want to start on too much and then end up thinking you need that much for it to be effective.

I wouldn't necessarily say it does this... but REM rebound generally tends to produce longer, vivid dreams; which in turn could lead to lucidity because of the increased vividness. But melatonin will not increase your awareness. That, unfortunately, is all up to you

As for recall, I haven't noticed a difference. Recall is just improved upon with practice and writing. If you're looking for a good recall boosting method, it is to write in your dream journal, and details, details, details!!
