      Smoking herbals

Im not what one would deem a "stoner" - but I endulge in a bit of weed and synthetic weed, such as Dream and Salvia - When I started lucid dreaming however, improving my techniques each night over weeks, gaining low, but definite levels of lucidty - then my mates birthday came, got pretty high, and didnt lucid dream at all, nor could I recall any dreams.

Ive done a few more tests, ie, trying to lucid dream for a week, improving my recall, then getting high - which seems to disrupt any effort.

It doesnt "reset" my ability, but I feel it does inhibit it somehow - does anyone else feel the same?

Well, scientifically, one cannot physically enter REM sleep when your intoxicated on ANYTHING, weed included... however, I beleive there's REM overdrive when you become less high during sleep. In otherwords, say you roast a fat blunt before you pass out, and pass out you do: a couple hours after the effects of the weed wear off your body, your REM should come back stronger then it would have originally, thus making dreams more vivid and longer. When I was smoking weed though I found it impossible to remember dreams and probably had little REM sleep because I was smoking all day and night and wasnt really sober if I was awake, but thats a different story...

As a smoker myself I can tell you for the most part weed and any Cannabinoids will hinder your ability to remember dreams. Your body produces a natural Cannabinoid called Anandamide, it is partly responsible for clearing up extra memories that we do not need, and possibly has it's own input in the reason we don't remember all our dreams. Anandamide is necessary for our mind to function properly but if you add other Cannabinoids you will find that during the high your memory is affected, and this carries over into your dreams for a day or two after smoking.

I've found when not smoking on consecutive days my dreams aren't affected so much, and also I've found that Indica dominant strains have little effect on my dreams compared to Sativas - the same is true for synthetic cannabinoids, CB1 receptor dominant chemicals that mimic Indicas, like JWH-122 and JWH-081 are less likely to impede dreams than the CB2 dominant ones.

All I can say is that whenever I do smoke weed over long periods of time (I'm currently sobur), I rarely remember any dreams; I'm not even sure if I have them. This is part of the reason why my lucid dreaming explorations have been an on and off thing, as when I am stoned all the time I can't atain lucidity. I've always found that when I quit smoking it that my dreams become a lot more vivid and my dream recall increases greatly.

While I am not hating on weed, you'll find that if you quit even for a day, that day you will have long, vivid dreams. I like a bit of the herb myself, but I find that when I don't smoke I have more interesting, complex dreams.
When I'm at the pearly gates, this'll be on my videotape. Mephistopheles is just beneath, and he's reaching up to grab me. This is one for the good days, and I have it all here in red, blue, green... You are my center when I spin away, out of control on videotape. This is my way of saying goodbye because I can't do it face to face, I'm talking to you before... No matter what happens now I shouldn't be afraid because i know today has been the most perfect day I've ever seen.

There is a right way and a wrong way to use cannabis.

If you are smoking up until bedtime (you're still stoned or high when you lay down), this is no good. There is a definite cut-off time that you shouldn't smoke after if you want to enhance dream vividness/recall. This time is usually about 2.5-3 hours before you go to bed. For example, my usual bedtime is 10pm. I make sure I don't smoke any cannabis past 7pm (or I take my last hit at 7pm). I am a very light smoker (only around ~3 hits daily, all vaporized).

Smoking past this cut-off time can have negative consequences on sleep. Other peoples' cut-off times may be different, though. It just takes self-control to make yourself stop smoking at a certain time every day.

Also, simply smoking too much cannabis throughout the day (quantity problem) is a common error. Keep your tolerance as low as possible. When I vaporize a single, tiny hit (<.05g), I get as high as I want to be. People always act like having low tolerance means you're "noob," but in my opinion it takes a seasoned veteran to perfect the art of keeping a low tolerance while continuing to smoke daily. This maximizes the potential of your stash, saves a lot of money, and is also healthier for your body. Also, I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think you can also have problems when you smoke low-grade cannabis (quality problem).

Nice first post. It's true, if you don't smoke until bedtime, you will recall your dreams a lot better. But it takes a disciplined person to do it. Oh, and off topic, vaping is a healthy way to do it, kudos to you.

If I smoke all the time I get pretty apathetic and don't even try to have LDs. I'm pretty much done with that now, LDing is more fun than weed and it's free. Only downside is less social interaction.

I smoked a few weeks ago. I got ripped off my ass and drank a few beers. Didn't recall any dreams that night but I definitely had some. Had a LD either the next day or the day after. My recall was right back where it was after 2 days.

I think it has a lot to do with how much you smoke and your psychological relationship to weed when you do. If you feel guilty and feel like it's going to wreck your recall it will.. If you say I'm celebrating tonight and going to indulge a little, time to kick back and relax, it should have a positive effect. The body needs psychosomatic release. I think that if you smoked just a few hits every once in a while you could probably handle it without even missing a single night of LDing. This is what I'm planning on doing now, smoking about a bowl once a month.
157 is a prime number. The next prime is 163 and the previous prime is 151, which with 157 form a sexy prime triplet. Taking the arithmetic mean of those primes yields 157, thus it is a balanced prime.

There are so many factors to think about when smoking weed and how it'll effect your dreams. I rarely experience forgetfulness or loss of lucidity (in fact it tends to improve my lucid abilities), but this might be due to the fact that I:

      1. prefer smoking pure sativa, because indica strains make me lazy and forgetful (but i indulge in this once in a while)
      2. like to smoke during the day, because sativa makes me active and i just enjoy being high and enjoying nature
      3. when i smoke by myself its rarely more than half a bowl, and my piece's bowl is pretty small to begin with.

You just gotta learn how to work with cannabis, it can be of great help just as with any other entheogen, if you respect it and use it with moderation.
