      Ever Used A Dream Rag?

Hello all, long time no see. I haven't been getting on as much due to school and my motivation going down from not having a single darn LD (and dream recall diminishing as well) but I returned after finding something in a book i had to read for my history/english class: Life of Pi

The book is about an Indian boy that survives 277 days at sea with a variety of animals and towards the end, where his strength is slowly waning and he is too weak to move, he begins to make use of a dream rag.

Taken directly from the 87th chapter of the book,

"One of my favorite methods of escape was what amounts to gentle asphyxiation. I used a piece of cloth that I cut from the remnants of a blanket. I called it my dream rag. I wet it with sea water so that it was soaked but not dripping. I lay comfortably on the tarpaulin and I placed the dream rag on my face, fitting it to my features. I would fall into a daze, not difficult for someone in such an advanced state of lethargy to begin with. But the dream rag gave me a special quality to my daze. It must have been the way it restricted my air intake. I would be visited by the most extraordinary dreams, trances, visions, thoughts, sensations, remembrances" (Yann Martel 298-99).

If anyone is up to trying this out feel free. I may try it later. I'm rather tired so ima go nap now

      Feedback would be awesome.

Yeah, self asphyxiation is generally not encouraged.

It sounds like a Ganzfeld...with suffocation.

Also, you probably shouldn't try this...or encourage anyone else to.

Hmm, I can imagine DV getting alot of attention in the wrong way if a story about someone trying this out and gets himself killed, reaches the newspapers... Depriving your brain of oxygen is dangerous. If you fall asleep while doing so, you'll kill yourself if you're unlucky. Or you might wake up mentally retarded.
