      Exclamation BEWARE of melatonin!

I have found out that melatonin(good for lucid dreaming for those who don't know) is one of the chemicals that delays puberty so to all those who are between 10 and 15 (big margin just in case) I would beware of it and try and achieve lucids the normal way (by yourself).

I found this out because apparently watching TV speeds up puberty and the start of it, because it helps lower the melatonin levels. There was some article on it. We did quite a bit about it in school.

Apparently over the globe, in the USA especially, those who watch about 2-3-4 ish hrs of TV a day have experienced ej********ns at 8.

Just a warning, and no I didn't know all this before, but as I was doing a topic I researched it deeper.

Melatonin is a hormone... It's production by the body reduces in the begining of puberty, so taking it when your body is trying to supress it WILL have effects...

I took Melatonin on prescription for years starting in my early puberty: never had any problems such as you described.
And Watching hours and hours TV a day makes you a passive, receptive creature and it deprives creativity.

Its probably just superstition but you have to be careful when taking such things, too much can cause damaging effects, watching TV i doubt speeds up puberty though.

I doubt watching TV speeds up puberty, it sounds lie propaganda so that stations could get more money. As for melatonin, if it delays puberty then you might as well never sleep again! [Please don't do that, you'd die] Since melatonin is the essential thing that makes you sleep, now I don't know if it might do that if you OD on melatonin so if you go by that sort of means I can't refute you

Lucidbulbs put it better than i ever could, if it does affect puberty i'd agree you should stay off it for a while.

The only thing I don't see, is how melatonin is not bad for you.
It's a hormone produced to monitor biorthyms. And if I know anything, it's that hormones are risky things to start messing about with.
That might be where the puberty things come into play, but I wouldn't think puberty would be affected by the pineal gland (produces melatonin) seeing as puberty is monitored by totally different glands.

sounds a little wishy washy to me
      but I'm no expert

Does anyone know how long taking 3 mg of melatonin should have an effect on you for? Is this something that can help you take a nap, or is it likely to still make you drowsy when you wake up in 2 hours?

It's unhealthy for puberty to begin early. If melatonin delays the onset of puberty, this should be just one more reason why supplementing with it in this day and age, where artifical lights are ubiquitous and natural melatonin secretion is abnormally low in every almost modern human being on the planet, is in fact a healthy thing to do.

      Melatonin is an antioxidant too.

That's intersting about the TV-melatonin connection; I had read that TV accelerated puberty, but the connection made was an early increase in hormones due to the all the sex on TV. Could be both I guess; combined with the sex hormone analogs in all the plastic we put our food in. Danger is everywhere.

It's very unlikely that melatonin slows down puberty because when you go to sleep your brain starts to produce lots of melatonin to get you to go to sleep.
If it did slow down puberty we wouldn't hit puberty till like 30 or 40 so not very likely .

But i'm not sure how tv affects puberty. that might be something worth researching but it doesn't really have to do with lucid dreaming very much.
everything in our life happens at once. the future is already happening at this moment. We just cant conciously notice it.

That's half the equation, lucidfruit. But to get you to go to sleep in the first place, your body produces melatonin based on the amount of ambient light in your environment. The only way to be exposed to more light than usual in the natural world is to be awake more often, and being awake more often would correlate with a human specimen who has abundant enough physical resources to afford staying up all hours of the day (as opposed to sleep 10-12 hours a day or longer because it's winter, you're starving and can't afford the energy to move, etc), which would signal the body that it has enough energy stored up to begin puberty (which requires a lot of resources to undergo - hungry teens and bottomless stomaches, etc.).

I see now why I look like a kid. In fact I felt very sleepy and lazy at that age. My body must have produced too much melatonin
