As he said, it was an accident and he just so happened to recognize the light was on without waking up. You could easily ask your parent who gets up for work at 4am to turn your light on when they get up(if you have one that is.)
The NovaDreamer sends you a cue whenever you in dream state, which is by far as good as your gonna get. Alot more complex then an automatic lightswitch though.
I'd see how it would work but i'd rely on the ND first.
You are right, BUT if you program the lights to come on later in the sleep cycle, say after 5 or 6 hours onwards, the length of REM periods is much longer than non-REM periods, so the chance of switching the light on during a REM period are very good.
Much cheaper than a any light mask.
