      Binaural Beats

Anyone use Binaural beats to help get better dream recall or help lucid dream?

For people who don't know what it is, it's 2 different sounds played in each ear that mix to form a sound of pulsing beats which alter your brain waves. They are used for relaxing and obtaining energy.
Example is 200hz in right ear and 210hz in left ear makes a 10hz beat which should put you at a relaxed but awake state.

They keep me awake. I've tried them for wilding and for listening to at night and neither has worked. No-one has yet given a convincing explanation for why they work, so I can only assume it's a placebo.

Actually I think its been proven that they alter your brain waves to specific states. Although I think most people experience placebo with this when using binaural beats that claim to make you high, which I don't believe.

Yes I agree they alter your brainwaves, but no-one has given an explanation for how that helps lucid dreaming...

Ahh, sorry I misread your post. I think that maybe listening to a relaxing one before sleep could help you in preparation possibly. I'll have to try one tonight and post back tomorrow..

Well I tried the Lucid aid binaural beats without lucid dreaming, but I had very vivid dreams. I won't use one tonight to see if the binaural beat was making the dreams detailed or it was just me.

Increased vividness would tend to suggest the ability to produce LDs. Where's the file that you tried? I'll try it as well, if it doesn't keep me awake. If it does anything to me then I can conclude that it isn't a placebo.

Its one from iDoser, but I'm sure you can create one yourself that puts your brain waves in theta mode.. I'm not sure how the iDoser ones differ from ones you make youself, but it's just called lucid dream.

Is that one of the free idoses, or do you have to pay for it?

It would probably keep me awake or wake me up anyway...But should still give it a go when I can be bothered.

It's a pay but they might have demo's? They're not easy to come by free.. For whatever reason since you can make them yourself.

Another thought.. If theta waves are associated with REM sleep (according to wikipedia ), could that possibly cause a person to enter REM earlier?

I looked up and I found a couple times that 3hz is supposed to help with lucid dreaming. This shouldn't make you stay awake, it never does for me anyways, I get relaxed and fall asleep better... But every ones different. You also don't have to have these blaring in your ear, just keep it on a low volume that helps you relax. I'll upload one I made tomorrow for you if you want to try.

EDIT: Didn't use the binaural and don't recall any dreams last night.

Sure I'll try it, as long as you tell me what it does. Thanks.

I've heard of 3hz being useful for LDs; never understood why though.

The brainwaves won't make you enter REM any sooner, or at least not with one listening. The body is quite firm on doing what it wills in that regard, although listening to it every night might possibly accustom the brain to do more REM over a period of time. That would be an interesting one to investigate.

Yes that's what I mean. Not make you enter REM while listening, but maybe have you enter REM sooner in your sleep if listening to a REM related binaural beat just before bed.

Also, I didn't use binaural beats last night, and I remember 3 dreams which is the most I've remember and I remember quite a bit from all of them.

This beat puts you at 7hz for 3 minutes and then 3hz for 7 minutes so its short. But it's a rather large file (for whatever reason they all are) 100mb but I got it down to 50mb with winrar, so it's a .rar file. If that's an issue I'll be uploading the zip right after. But thats 100mb

Yes I sometimes feel that, but what I do is take a calm song and put it into the beat with audacity. So there's actually music to listen to. And the binaural part doesn't have to be louder than the song part

Crikey, that's huge. I don't have the internet at home so I'll have to download it next time I'm at a wifi spot. What do you do with it, just put it on loop whilst going to sleep, or what?

No, just listen to the whole thing before bed. Don't loop it lol, I wouldn't be able to sleep either!

Oh, what's that going to do if you don't go to sleep with it on, then?

It would still bring you waves down to a state which you could carry out throughout your sleep because of little brain activity I'm guessing. But if you could manage to fall asleep I would only assume the effects would be greater.

No problem! Report back with your experience using these, and how you used it.
I'll try to make another that isn't so large, and plays longer.

Used it for half an hour right before sleeping, and produced very vivid dreams in the morning, which is an improvement, as I haven't been having vivids lately.
