      First LD, and a question

So a few nights ago, I had my first lucid. I haven't really been actively trying for a LD, I do try to write in my dream journal whenever I can however.

Anyways, onto the dream. To shorten things, basically I was driving around with some friends, then we had to change cars for some reason. We switched into a stick shift car (I don't know how to drive one, just got my license recently) so someone else drove. Then randomly after driving a while I switched back into the drivers seat (I didn't actually move, I just magically appeared in it) and was driving and thought to myself, "hold on, you can't drive this car, and you weren't even in the driver's seat." I did a nose plug reality check, and became lucid.

The question I have, is this. Immediately after I became lucid, my dream exploded. I vaguely remember the car disappearing and me flying forward right before I woke up. I'd guess I was probably lucid no more then 3 seconds before I woke. So, what can I do next time to prevent something like this from happening?

Either way, having my first LD really motivated me to try for more and even thinking back to it, even though it was so short, still makes me super happy.

This happens to everyone weather they are excited, moved (emotionally), etc. It wouldn't suprise me if you lost another one the next time you became Lucid. Although this may happen I wish you the best of luck .

Eventually it'll stop happening. It's only happened to me twice out of all my LD's. My advice is to try some mantras that help with getting excited straight away.

Try not to get excited and try to immerse your senses in your environment. Look around, notice the details of things, rub your hands together, feel the textures around you, etc. I've also heard it helps sometimes to keep doing what you were before in the dream, keep playing along with it, at first.
