Unhappy I'm still new...I have a question! SP?

      Hi dreamers!

I've just recently joined and I love it, everyone is so nice and helpful....so thanks!

I have a question.... I've been experiencing this weird feeling only in the mornings, it started about four years ago and I've experienced it ATLEAST once every couple months. Basically my body is completely numb and paralyzed but I am totally aware of it. I can't open my eyes and I can move. It feels like something is holding me down and trying to keep me asleep. Now, I understand that for WILD this would be ideal. When I first started experiencing this, it was really scary and I fought it alot. But this morning it happened again, I tried relaxing and going with it but I was totally aware and it just felt too freaky. I didn't hear or see anything, I told my self to open my eyes but it didn't work, finally I would jolt and twitch very hard so I would wake up and I did but felt incredibly groggy.

What is this????? How can I control it? Can i use it to LD?
      Thank you!!!!

It seems a lot like sleep paralysis. In one part you say you were paralyzed and in one point you say that you can move? In sleep paralysis you can move your face usually.

correction.... I CAN"T move. Sorry about that.... yeah I'm not sure, I've been reading about SP and everyone seems to see things or hear things, mine was just an overwhelming sensation that I could not move and then feeling VERY groggy when I came out of it. It's happened several times and never did I see anything scary or hear any voices.

I have LD'd several times (since a kid) and had my first WILD last week. I'm hoping I can control this "sp" or whatever it is and possibly WILD from it.

Sleep paralysis shouldn't last for more than a minute or two. Afterward, you should enter a dream. (Either that, or you were exiting a dream). If you stay calm, you'll be fine.

What's there to get freaked out about?

Well its more of that uncontrolled feeling. I mean my mind is completely awake and aware but my body doesn't respond, its a freaky feeling but you're right I don't let it panic me, its more annoying than anything

Just keep in mind that sleep paralysis is a natural occurence and cannot hurt you. Actually, it is the very mechanism that prevents you from hurting yourself!

Very true if it wasn't for SP you would be acting out your dreams and therefore you may hit yourself with surrounding objects such as tables, just think of it as your body guard . Good luck solving this problem

It is definitely SP. SP is sleep paralysis. Seeing things and hearing thins is HI/HH (hypnagogic imagery/hallucinations). They often are paired with sleep paralysis, but you can experience SP without them. This is definitely good for entering an LD. This process is known as a WILD. It often gives a feeling of fear for no apparent reason. Nothing is keeping you asleep or anything like that, it is just the way body/mind works. It can definitely be frightening at first, but just keep reminding yourself that it isn't real and you can't be harmed. You should stay as calm as possible and don't try to do too much. Just let the process carry out. The idea is that you want to fall asleep, but just remain conscious as you do. If you get any HI/HH just passively observe it and let them come and go as they please. With some practice you will get used to it. Good Luck!
