      A voice

Hello Dream Views, this is my first post here. Before i talk about my experience, id like to say a little about myself:
Ever since my first lucid dream two years ago, i have become obsessed. i was 17 at the time and i woke up a different person. The year following my first lucid dream, i learned how to lucid dream. The next year, i would have a lucid dream every few weeks, sometimes more but never two nights in a row.
Currently, i have anywhere from 5 to 16 lucid dreams a week. It has been like this since i wrote an essay on it for my english final several months ago. I often feel that my dreams have become more of a reality to me than my waking life. I spend my dreams looking for answers, and spend my days reflecting on my dreams. My only frustration is the lack of people in my life who share this interest. My friends and coworkers find it interesting, but its stops there. I very openly share about my experiences with my friends and coworkers, and have even had people tell me I'm crazy or that I'm losing it. I figured everyone here would be a little nicer.

This post is about the strangest lucid experience i have ever had. It occurred recently, not when i was new to lucid dreaming. I was, and still am extremely comfortable and familiar with the dreaming environment, and had no doubts or fears when i was dreaming.

I went to bed, and fell asleep. I woke up in the black void (im not sure what everyone calls it here, i mean the empty place you often end up after losing your visuals). I became conscious and lucid at the exact same time. I was conscious, and the very first thought in my head was "Im dreaming"
I have become lucid like this in the void before, and i usually just imagine myself somewhere and the dream forms around me. This time however, before i even had a chance to think anything else, another thought, not my own, whispered in my left ear. The voice was female, and soft, and made me feel more fear than i have ever felt in my life. She said "You're dreaming... so what are you going to do now?"
Thats it. I heard these words, and despite my familiarity with my dreams and even the black void (something i have always found peaceful) i was paralyzed with fear. At the same time, i knew i didn't have to be afraid, and yet i was and all i could think was that i needed to wake up, right now. I woke up terrified, but also ashamed. How could i have wasted this dream because i was scared? And over what? A voice that asked me what i would do?
I calmed down, and went back to sleep. It happened again. I woke up in the void to the thought of "Im dreaming". There was a pause, and the voice whispered in my other ear "...so what are you going to do now!?" And again, all i could think was that i needed to wake up immediately.

This was by far the strangest experience i have ever had dreaming, and i have a lot of dreams to compare it to. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Does anyone know what this could mean?

Firstly welcome, I'm surprised that no-one has answered yet. Been here for almost 6 months and I think you'll find everyone very helpful.
Haven't experienced anything like that, but I'm not the most experienced one. I'd guess it might be a SP (sleep paralysis), but I haven't experienced SP myself.

      Welcome

well, you'll never really find what your brains capable of, not enough time on this earth. you're probably just reaching new levels like in meditation, ie: calmness, polar opposite in your fingers, swaying, floating, all those, then nirvana. I don't think anyone's reached the nirvana of dreams yet, it'd be world changing.

Thank you for your responses! And im pretty sure it was sleep paralysis, but this is why i found it even more interesting... I have experienced and induced sleep paralysis more times than I can count, and it has never scared me. This was so different... and even more odd to me was that after waking from it the first time, and realizing how foolish it was, it immediately happened again and terrified me even more.

And brock, i very much agree with that, it is an insanely complex issue... but it has been something i have been so confused and curious about since it happened. i wondered if anyone has had a smiler experience. It reminds me of the dreaming emissary in Carlos Castaneda's books lol. Because it was a voice that was not my own in my thoughts.
And i had always thought that the famous "enlightened" people (the dali lama, Meher Baba, Krishnamurti ect) were ones that had reached nirvana ... after reading Robbert Waggoners book i think he did too.

i guess all the logical ppl will shun me for this but what the hell, just as long as i give you thought of it i'll feel like i helped you. It can be your dream guide or spirit guide. when in a dream try asking if the voice can show her self (since you said it was a females voice). you have nothing to lose! you might find yourself in and adventure beyond dreams. but what do i know :p

Hah i think there is a place for that theory even with the "logical" people. That even if i call it a spirt guide or dream guide, it is only a name for that part of my subconscious i have come in contact with. Although personally i believe a spiritual side... i do not believe that the things i find and experience in my dreams are my own creations.

I have considered the possibility of this being my dream guide, but then wondered why I was so scared. I thought if it was my dream guide, it would have contacted me in a different and less terrifying manner, especially since it happened twice. I have had varying degrees of success with asking my dream for things; from being completely ignored to having experiences totally beyond my expectations. I am definitely curious to see how my dream would react if i asked to speak to that voice specifically...

but remember, it wasnt terrifyinig. you assumed it to be because it was a sensation of the unknown. everyone, in a sense, is scared or at least nervous of the unknown. maybe that unknown feeling scared you.

You say you find co-workers and friends that are amused by the aspect of LD'ing? Be happy with that. Whenever I bring up LD'ing with my friends, they literally think I'm on crack.

Welcome to DV! Everyone here is very friendly, and ready to help! EVERYONE here is on "crack". XD

I've had a similar experience once before... My second LD I ended up being in a white void that my DG led me to. Never had a voice in my LD's though... just in WL (I'm schizo).

It turns out that I've had a lucid experience similar to the one you've had, lucidboy.

I'd become lucid and I was in a theme park and after walking through a bunch of doorways (something I'd been having the hardest time with; I'd always get kicked out of a dream by going through a door...) I'd stopped and decided I was going to summon a very specific DC. I turned around, and I swear I could feel the dream reality shifting; it was going to happen. But right as I was about to make my request verbally, a male voice (it sounded like it came from inside of my own head or from the sky) told me, "No." and suddenly the energy I'd felt building to summon my DC vanished and I knew I couldn't do it. I felt like my dream was high-jacked and, pissed, I shouted to the ceiling, "Why not?" and he told me something along the lines of 'now is not the time.'

I still tried to summon my DC, but the simple fact was that I couldn't do it. And that was painful. I ended up sitting on a curb in this dream theme park, moping, and angry before I tried to fly and fell out of the dream. It was the strangest and most unnerving LD I have ever had, and probably the one that bothered me most. This voice wasn't a regular DC either. He was sentient. It almost felt like he existed outside of the dream and (apparently) had ultimate control over what I could and couldn't do while in it. The experience itself didn't frighten me, per se (I like to think I'm open minded about things like this) but this was the first time I'd actually encountered something like him and I was a little disturbed. Afterwards, I couldn't remember my dreams for a month and that scared the shit out of me.

I'm not sure what the dream meant, but the experience made me wonder just how much control and power I really have in the dream. Made me wonder just what else it out there, you know? Spooky, but thrilling all at the same time, huh? Anyway, I plan on trying to talk to him again, next time I get lucid, and find out who he is and what he meant by 'now is not the time'. Maybe you should try and ask her who she is and why she was asking?

Its nice to know that I'm not the only one that has had such experiences, and it also reminds me of how small we are in this universe. I am definitely anxious to try and contact her in my next lucid dream.

And i felt that same feeling of my dream being "hijacked"... it was if the second i heard her voice i lost all control, and even though i knew she couldn't hurt me and that i had nothing to fear, it terrified me.
Thank you everyone for your responses! I am starting to like it here already =P

You've came face to face with your first auditory hallucination. This comes with the sleep paralysis territory and it is no harm at all. Unless, you know, the voices are telling you to kill people. A few weeks ago I had the same thing. Though they were multiple female voices and I was in the same black void as you. Though I could feel my body. So my first reaction was to simply move and wake up. I was in sleep paralysis and could do no such thing. I tried calling for help. I couldn't make out anything. So I strained my body until I broke the sleep paralysis - and the voices stopped. Horrible experiences come with sleep paralysis sometimes..
