Question How long did your longest lucid dream last?

Hey guys! I saw some similar posts but they were all from way back in 2009 and were long-dead. So I was wondering - how long was your longest lucid dream?

I have only had one tiny Lucid that I don't even count as an LD, and it felt like 4 or 5 seconds, so I am getting a little disheartened. The longest lucids I have read about in other's dream journals seem to be only around 5 minutes. Is that a typical length for an experienced Lucid Dreamer? Cause that would stink

Let me hear what you have to say!

      ~Raven

EDIT: I realize that it is really hard to put into words how long your dream is, since dream time is very skewed. A better question is how much you managed to do within your dream, as well as how long it felt.

Oh thats pretty good! I know that time feels skewed, so I think a better question would be how much did you manage to get done, AND how long did it feel. What matters in the end is what you do with the Lucid, so the events you managed to pump out in one dream is a better measurement.

Do you remember what it was about?

I think i have had an lucid dream that lasted an roughly half of hour to hour of dreamtime, not sure how long exactly because lost lucidity in the middle of it and then regained it, and i had barely any recall from the part where i lost lucidity to where i regained it: 31st Mar 2013 Doing WILD in the dream again, New Dreamscape, Transformation attempts, Wasp uberswarm - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

Oh wow thats very long! That gives me hope that I could actually accomplish something in my dreams... I read an article that claimed that meditating or "focusing your chakra" in the middle of a dream could make it last up to one hundred times longer. That can't be true, can it?

My longest lucid dream of all time felt like it went for approximately 90 minutes. I wish that I could tell you this was the norm, but it's still the longest LD that I've ever experienced. I have no idea how to repeat it, but it truly is possible.

As for how much I got done, I traveled a great distance and explored a lot of different locales, indoors, outdoors, and even underground. I watched a wizard battle in an arena, I hunted turkeys with muskets, dove out of a golden elevator into the sea, explored an underground barrow filled with Egyptian artifacts, interrupted a board room meeting with an assault, and was carried into the air on a tide of glowing psychedelic turkeys. As the dream went on longer and longer, I was able to hold onto only one goal from waking life (the Task of the Month) but I did remain aware that I was dreaming and that I had consumed B6 before bed. If you're interested, this is the dream: Transcendental Turkey Shoot - Dream Journals - Lucid Dreaming - Dream Views

Even though I have not repeated it, it's the sort of thing that I'm grateful to have even experienced once in my life. I've recently gotten up to 45-60 minutes in a recent dream, but I haven't been able to repeat 90 minutes (yet.)

While a lot of LDs are short, don't underestimate how amazing these experiences can be. Some will be long and some will be short, but I'd still pursue LD with every bit as much fervor even if I knew that I'd never have an LD longer than 5 minutes. When it's 5 minutes where anything is possible, that's 5 minutes that I wouldn't trade away for anything. (Okay, not for anything but you get the idea. )

Good luck as you build up toward your own long LDs! Practice goes a long, long way in this game. If you see this thing through, you will amaze yourself, whether it's a 5-minute experience or a 2-hour one.

My longest was around 5 minutes. A couple were 2-3 minutes. Shortest was 1 or 2 seconds!

I will definitely give that a read! That sounds incredible! But 90 minutes, or 2 Hours would be incredible!

      Longest LD?

Well, it depends how I measure. My longest uninterrupted LD was about 2 hours -- they really can't be much longer, because even that length of time represents some serious REM stretching.

However, I have managed to "chain" REM periods with DEILD many times. When you do that, you can jump from one REM period to the next without losing the schemata of your current dream. The longest I've made that last was well over four hours.

For what it's worth, it may be easier to judge the length of an LD than you might think. Remember that your waking consciousness is there with you in the dream, so on waking you do not need to rely only on dream recall to measure your time in the dream (which is always sketchy at best), but on actual short-term memory, which is much more reliable. You might be off by a few minutes, but since you were actually there, judging the time is about the same as jusdging the time of any other waking-life event. Another thing I do is keep an eye on my clock: since many LD's are in late stages of sleep with limited NREM interruptions, noting when you started nodding off and when you woke up can give you a rough idea of dream time (this of course would only work for WILD/DEILD, where you are lucid, potentially, for the duration of REM).

Awesome reply, thanks so much! I know that REM cycles are very short, and that thats the real life duration of dreams - but I've heard people claim that they have spent days in a lucid dream, like a Narnia effect. They manage to fool time that time passes slower in their dream or something along those lines. Is there anything to that or is that a lie? If you can truly control everything when lucid, why not time flow?

I personally have never "dilated" time beyond the brief stretches and compressions that accompany waking-life moods like excitement or boredom. I've also consistently found problems with claimants' accounts of their extreme time-dilation successes. And yet, I have a real problem with the very existence of time, so I guess I'm still on the fence with this.

Besides, no matter how long an LD "seems" to last, aren't we talking here about how long it actually lasts, in the real world?

My longest FELT like it was a long time, but in reality I think it was only about 25 minutes. Time is so awkward in my dreams, it feels like I'm in it for so long and when I wake up it's been about 20 minutes. I think 25 minutes is pretty good though, because I'm pretty noobish at this. xD

No I mean how long it seems! So your answer was perfect I dont care how long it actually is in real life, what matters is how much you can get done and be a part of your dream world.

      ^^ Oh!

Well, I'm glad part of my addled mind was paying attention...

In that case, determining dream length, or perhaps depth, by how much you get done seems an excellent idea ... especially because such a criterion does away with pesky time measurements altogether. Very cool.

My longest was 25 minutes or something, when I was really into Lucid dreaming.
I get lucid dreams from time to time without even trying anymore. (I still keep doing my realitychecks, it's gotten into a habbit. Hence I get them still)

My longest was probably just a few minutes. I'll get random LDs that usually only last like 30 seconds and I always do the same thing. I walk through all the walls in my house and the second I fly in the air I wake up. I just recently realized I can just walk through the wall in my room and be outside lol. A lot easier than going through my whole house. I usually always start off in my room because I WILD most of the time without meaning to.

I've never actually never timed mine in real life time. But I have had lucids last for over 5 hours of dream time

Great topic! I love to hear from the veteran LDers because their accounts give us a taste of what is in store for us if we keep at it.

From my own LDs (which have been no more than 5 minutes each) I have noticed two reasons why dream time may seem longer than actual time.

First, you do cut corners in dreams. If you are in your house and decide to go outside and walk down the street, you won't actually be walking the X number of steps that you would IWL. If you were to get in your car and decide to drive into town, you will see some road and maybe scenery, but you will arrive at your destination much quicker than you're used to.

Second, there is the emotional aspect. Emotions seem to be magnified in LDs, or at least they are in mine. Everything from "Wheeeeeee! I'm lucid!" to the exhilaration of trying something you have never done before (such as flying), to admiring the beautiful landscapes that you somehow created, right down to how you interact with DCs, whether you know them from your waking life or are meeting them for the first time. Strong emotions can enhance a short moment so that it expands in your mind. I'm sure you have had great experiences in your life that stand out like that.

I suppose that is why we are willing to put so much time and effort into achieving lucidity.

I think my longest has been an hour or so. But dream time seems to be shorter than real time. But there're various methods to keeping a LD lengthy. For example, rubbing your hands together works, and so does falling backwards. Very weird yes, but very useful. Keep trying! The more you have, the longer they are!!!

I had one that went on for days (in dream-time, of course), but it didn't feel like the dream-day had 24 hours. I saw the sunset at least a dozen times in that LD, but the hours went by so fast. Time in dreams is perceived differently, and it's amazing.

It definitely didn't feel good after I woke up, however. I'd made a wonderful connection with a DC and haven't been able to find him again.

interesting replies. for me personally if I get one successful WILD it tends to chain into no less than 4 (which is very often). The time spent in the lucid dream can vary so greatly I really don't even know what to say. Sometimes it can feel like hours and sometimes it can be only 30 seconds...however even those 30 seconds are always important and leave me pondering.
