I just had my first one as well, last night after 2 months of trying. It was a bit of a letdown (albeit exciting because I finally had my first), because it didn't pan out into anything that cool, I tried to take control and ended up ruining it. It's kind of blurry because when I woke up I didn't record any of it in my dream journal and just went back to sleep trying to get back into it. I figured I'd remember it, as it was a big/exciting breakthrough, and for the most part I was right, but there are some small gaps.
It started out a regular dream, albeit a boring one. I was working as a mover (something I've never done in real life or even thought about), working with another guy loading up the back of a truck. We take off driving, and I become aware that I'm dreaming. Not sure what caused the realization, one of the gaps, but I did realize it. I turn to the guy driving the truck and say, "Oh s#%t I'm dreaming", he just kind of gives me a dirty look, in fact he doesn't say anything at all after we took off in the truck or for the rest of the dream. Just drives silently. I start thinking to myself that I just screwed up, pulling that "newbie mistake" I've read about several times where people run around telling everybody they're dreaming and wake up. But that's not really how it was, as I realized it and said it, it was more of a cautious realization, I think I was more thinking out loud than trying to tell him. But I guess in the dream I thought that simply telling a DC you're dreaming was a no-no, and I immediatley go about doing stabilizing techniques to try and fix my "mistake". Rubbing my hands together, doing simple addition in my head, and the dream world sort of fading in an out of focus, then eventually completely into focus, except now it's night instead of day. I thought I should try spinning around, but can't do that in the cab of this truck. I try to just relax into this dream and see where it takes me, but I start to get bored, as it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Just sitting in the cab of this truck with this silent man, pretty much complete darkness outside because there's no scenery, it's like we're out in the country and the only thing to see is the headlights illuminating the road. So eventually I decide I'm going to visualize a new dream scene, I go with this old hotel my family used to stay at a lot when I was a kid on vacations, it seems like a fun place I'd like to explore in a lucid dream. I close my eyes and start trying to visualize it, but I find myself in total darkness, realizing it's not working and getting mad at myself for trying to do too much too early, and then I wake up.
