These can be really tricky. Last time I did this, I thought, oh well, I'm just in bed.

That was until I pressed my hand against the window and it went through it.

Try any reality check. Float, turn the lights on with your mind.
you must be the change you wish to see in the world...

Yeah, as seeker said, a good thing to try is to turn on the lights.
Also, I know that the last thing you want to do is get out of bed in the middle of the night and be active, so try easy reality checks, such as pushing your hand through your palm(this seems to work for a few people)

Hah! I do this so much in my dreams. Suprisingly I gain my lucidity through them. I always look around lifting out of my body saying "I just fell asleep dident I?" or somthing like that.

Get a digital clock and put it next to your bed, and just use the time to RC. Now that I think about it, doing a RC each time you wake up sounds like a good idea.

I disagree. The lights and clock thing don't work for us. |)347|-| has been able to turn on lights before and I can read digital clocks just fine. Not only that, but I can read and write just as well as if I were awake. I think the best way for us is to try what Seeker said about passing through things or seeing your dream sign or dream guide.

RC stands for "reality check", testing to see if you're dreaming or not (trying to turn on the lights, trying to pass your hand through something, or what have you.)

And now, almost a year later, that's still the only one I've had...

for years and years i've had many false awakenings, but it was only up until about a week ago that i realised what they were.

i also realised that they can obviously be used for the beginning of lucid dreaming. all this time, i have just panicked and stressed myself out trying to wake up.

the other week when the penny had finally dropped i think i had endured 7 or 8 false awakenings and not used one of them to commence a LD!

as regards to RC's i always seem to check my phone display - the text is always higgledepiggled and then i know i'm dreaming.

i told my boyf that they've always scared me - he told me there was nothing to be scared about. it was stressful on the body/mind, but as long as i kept calm then it would all be fine.

i have a lot of respect for my boyf - he's 10 yrs older than me and had a lot of experience with awareness in all aspects.
