The subconscious is an amazing thing...

*sigh* I was just finishing this HUGE post when the window decided to close spontaneously. Damn. All over again, I guess.

Just about half hour ago I had a lucid dream. Basically, I had a false awakening, and started to write down the details of my previous dream in my dream journal. I think the fact that I no longer HAVE a dream journal was part of the reason why I thought this may be a dream. Anyway, my favourite reality check (the nose pinch) quickly reaffirmed that this was a dream. Then I tried going through the closed door of my room to the living room, but my head had trouble passing through, unlike the rest of my body which went smoothly.

As I finally pushed my head, face first, through, I emerged on the other side with a very blurry vision. But after several seconds, part of my vision became cristal clear - but only a small section, a "crack". The rest of my field of view remained very fuzzy, to the point it was difficult to navigate around the room.

I then visualized that there's a clay mask over my face, that was smeared across my eyes when I tried to push my head through agressively. I then went to a nearby mirror and pealed this clay off my face (sure looked weird...) and it worked in focusing my vision.

And then, I made a huge mistake. Figuring out that if I'm already in front of a mirror, why won't I take a deeper look and see what scares all those people so much. So there I was, gazing deeply into the mirror, the reflection of which became not entirely clear. I started approaching the mirror to get a better look. The more I approached, the worse I felt. A feeling that something bad is about to happen. The only thing I could see in the mirror for certainly was that I seemed to have TWO reflections, not one. The normal one, and another, fainter one beside it. Two me's in the mirror. As I approached the feeling of impending doom intensified, to the point I had to force myself to go on. And then...

Puff. A FLOATING HEAD appeared in the air in front of me. NOT inside the mirror, but in the space between me and the mirror! And it had my face on it! The head screamed (although I don't remember it opening its mouth). I was sent into a spiral of terror that awoke me.

I woke up in pretty much the same position and lighting as the false awakening before. But after several intensive reality checks, I was convinced this was for real. I got up, and after a couple of minutes I got curious, and went to take a thorough look into the same mirror, in real life this time.

Sure enough, there were two reflections of me, not one. That's because there's a mirror that we don't use, that I totally forgot about, leaning on the wall right across the mirror I was looking at!! I basically saw my ordinary reflection, and the reflection of my BACK in the mirror behind me. So one "me" was the ordinary reflection, the other "me" was farther, and facing the opposite direction.

After awhile I came back to have another thorough look into the mirror, and made another interesting discovery. From a very specific angle, you can just see my face reflecting off the mirror behind me, making it the third reflection. You need to be pretty close to the mirror and stand at a certain angle to see it, and the reflection is much smaller than the others. Floating head anybody?

I find it hard to believe it was a coincidence. Damn, that subcon must be one hell of a processing machine...

I've never had an experience quite as impressive as that one, but I'm sure everyone here has some subconsciousness stories. In one dream I was reaching into the fridge for some milk but there was none left. When I woke up, there also was no milk left in the real fridge. I think I probably looked in the fridge the night before and noticed there was no milk without conciously thinking it.

      Hi,

sorry I don't get what u mean by this part......what do u mean u wanted to see what scares all those people?

Btw, your lucid dream could have been an OBE (Out of Body Experience) instead?

      To Dark Mind:
You'll find that it is very common for people to see scary things in mirrors. I think this might have been what Wicked meant.

      To Wicked:
Whoa! Lol. That must have been a hell of an experience. It's crazy how your subcon worked Knowing that there were three visible reflections into the dream like that.

Yep that's what I meant. People always say that you shouldn't look into a mirror in a LD or you'll see something terrifying.

Hmm... Oneironaut, what an interesting nickname... you haven't by any chance played the game Clive Barker's Undying?

Nah. I thought about renting it, though, so I may end up playing it soon. I originally got the name from the movie Waking Life, when a guy was giving the name for people who explore dreams.

OK. Because in that game there some kind of dimension called the Lost City of Oneiros. Thought there might be a connection.

Oneiros is from the Greek word "Dreams" and I think Oneiros was supposed to be the Dream God or something like that, which is where the Oneiro- in Oneironaut comes from. So yeah, there is Somewhat of a connection. 8)

Dangit, I want to see what I look like when I dream shift, but now I don't want to try it! Any way you can know what you look like without looking in a mirror and seeing something scary? :-/
