      Fear in Lucidity

I had my first REAL DEAL lucid experience today, while napping in the middle of the afternoon. I passed out on my futon in my dorm - i havent been sleeping right for a week now, and finally just crashed out.

I had a waking dream that my friend was in the room with me. I brushed it off until I realized, my door is locked. I jumped up and ran to the doorway - the lights didnt work, there was a really dull flicker as if they had burnt out. I knew I was lucid, and as soon as I thought this to myself, the whole world got all shaky and fuzzy and i snapped out of the dream. I woke up and realized that I finally figured out how to do it, so I went back to sleep. I noted on the clock that I had been alseep for approximately 20 minutes.

When I fell back asleep, I had another waking dream, but this time I ended up in some kind of strange school. However, random people from highschool and my college were in the classrooms. I knew I was dreaming again, because of the lights. Not only couldnt i get them to work, but they were all off in the first place.

A girl I have hooked up with many times was sitting on top of her dest, and I attempted to, lets see how to put this... touch her in inappropriate ways in front of everyone. It was weird as hell, so I went running out of the room, testing the lights on my way out. I bumped into another friend in the hallway and was so scared, i started to ask him questions. "You ever have a dream where you knew you were dreaming, man? I think I'm asleep right now, i cant get any lights to work."

What he said freaked me the fuck out! He said, "Dude...your fucked up. Theres been a power surge and we lost power."

So now, in the dream, im thinking, Oh man! Im gonna get kicked outta school! I must be drunk, high, tripping, or all three to have just done what I did. I was in a really weird, high kinda euphoria in the dream. I cant remember what happened next, but I just felt horrified and was telling myself to wake up and couldnt.

      Then I woke up.

This was the most bizarre experience Ive ever had. It all took place between 4 and 6pm, lying on my couch, but it felt like at least a 6 hour stint. I was so anxious to try some stuff like joyriding cars, flying, touching more women... but this scared the hell outta me!

If anything else, I can at least say I finally got lucid - at the most random unexpected time ever.

      Cheers.

I also feel, right now, extremely tired, both physically and mentally. Is this normal following a lucid dream Its so weird, because i was running around and i was physically so scared... my whole body is drained...

i understand how discovering lucidity for the first time can be offputting

to avoid this in the future, do a reality check each time you become lucid. For instance, say you start to suspect you are dreaming.

before you do anything do a reality check. look at a piece of text, or digital clock. look back...if its changed or moves around before your eyes, you can be sure you're dreaming.

or, my favourite, pull on a finger and see if it stretches...or try to push a finger through the opposing palm....or hop in the air and see if gravity is altered or non-existent.

all these give you a definite real-ization that you are dreaming. then fear has no place, or uncertainty.

congrats on your success, and good vibes as you become familiar with LDing

Funny you should say about feeling tired afterwards. This happened to me for the first time a few days ago. I had a really long lucid dream - perhaps 40 mins - and woke up feeling quite tired despite having the usual amount of sleep.

Once you learn to relax a bit in an LD you'll get less freaked out and more adjusted to the possibilities. Practice, practice, practice.

Yeah, when you do become lucid it's a bit like:

Once you get used to the general feel of things it's easier to sit back, relax and experiment. Congratulations on the experience, that's definetly a milestone.

I find when I'm totally knackered my dreams are a lot more vivid and most of my lucid dreams occur when I'm in that physical state.

Keep it up, practice, and if you need any tips there are plenty of experienced folks around the forums.
