What was this? Lucid, semi-lucid, nothing special?

Ok ok ok ok..... I think I had one. Maybe. Sort of. Semi lucid at least.

I ate two apples before I went to bed last night, over my usual one that I'm testing.
Firstly I had a pretty vivid dream, but nothing more than that, just a vivid dream that ended kinda badly, something bad happened and I think it shocked me awake. I stayed up for a bit, then went back to sleep. I had another dream, nothing really unusual about that, although it was a happy dream and I do remember feeling a little better than usual in that dream than other happy dreams.

Anyhoo, straight after that one, I dreamed I was sleeping on the spare mattress that I can pull out from under my bed. I was sleeping on it, at 1am. I glanced at my digital alarm clock beside me, only once though. I remember feeling the mattress and cover being really uncomfortable, couldn't get it right on me, and it was very noisy, and I didn't want to wake my parents.

This may sound like a normal dream, but for me it was much more vivid than any other the others. I had a full proper surrounding, rather than the vague environments you normally get in dreams. Also, I remember being awake, and entering the dream with a loud noise in my ears and vibrations. It was over in like 3 seconds, and it didn't feel like there was a lapse in time.

What do you think this was?

It sounds like a really vivid normal dream to me, which is definitely still a good thing. Having this vivid dreams is one step closer to converting them into lucidity by way of awareness. Remember, the only requirement for a dream to be considered a lucid dream, is realizing you are dreaming from within the dream state. If while you were laying on the mattress and you knew you were in a dream, then it would be considered a lucid dream. The loud noises and vibrations could have been SP (sleep paralysis) kicking in as you fell asleep. Either way, congrats on the vivid dream and the good recall (three dreams in one session) !

I have pumped them up to at least 4 a night now, by eating 2 apples right before bed. Within a day, they seemed to boost my dream recall 2 fold.... or double.... or twice as many.

I looked it up and I think it may have been an unintentional DEILD, as I remember waking up, lying on my front, and opening my eyes for a second, but shutting them because ARGH MY EYES THE LIGHT, IT BURNS. I was then in a dream in less than a second, it was very vivid, etc etc. Not lucid, as I never really knew about DEILD, but still borderline.

Either I woke up and this is a DEILD of some kind, or it was a False Awakening, followed by a coincidental vivid dream.

It WAS quite vivid, clear and tactile clear though..

Ah, yeah it sounds about right. Sometimes, false awakenings can be very difficult to tell apart from true awakenings. Either way, you were pretty close to achieving lucidity in this one and its still a positive experience.

Yeah, when I woke up I wasn't kicking myself at having missed something. I was happy that I achieved something. I'm going to focus on DEILD now, as I can actually see it working for me, not like DILD or WBTB when I tried those where I could imagine it working, DEILD I was see working. All are a good confidence booster.

Thats why I set my LD count so high. So I see it most days and it further makes me think I can do it if I have had so many, even if it is made up!

Ah, that is a good strategy . Yeah, I really like DEILD. If you can catch it early enough, it isn't very hard to follow through and transition. Good luck to you!

Yea DEILD is quite easy, you just need to get that precise moment.

I can recognize the moments you talk about. Those points during the night where you wake up, and stretch and roll over then go back into sleep like 2 minutes later. The only problem is the moving part, but I think I have decent enough reflexes to catch myself before I do it. The only thing now is to wait for that moment to happen. Last night I tried waiting on it, but my sleep was very bad and I was up late. No dreams and I never really woke up properly. Oh well, that was last night, I will have to try again.
