Am I going insane?

Straight to the dream:

This morning I became lucid when I found a snake in my cupboard, it began coiling its self around me, and I love snakes. I said out loud "This is a good dream". Then a part of my mind just seemed to pop up and say "What? Dream?". Then I said "It's a dream, look". I did the nose-plug reality check, and it worked, then the voice said "Ah, sorry I didn't realise before, continue what you were doing." I then suddenly realised I was talking to myself somehow and woke up.

That was incredibly strange, has this happened to anyone else? Or am I going insane?

Sounds normal enough to me, as far as dreams are concerned. I wonder if the "you" that realized it was a dream was your subconscious, and the "You" that was surprised at first was your conscious. Sounds like you just surpised yourself a bit.

I don't find it strage. They say consciousness is divided, so to speak, between the id, ego and superego. They are usually out of tune with each other and will often quarrel with each other on a subconscious level. I wouldn't find it strange to actually hear opposing dialogue within your inner sense of "self", while dreaming.
