      First LD...not so cool

So i went to sleep and woke up 4 hours later. I figured I would try FILD, so I went for it. So I'm laying there, moving my fingers when I finally decide to just give up and go to sleep. After laying there for a while, I decide I want a soda, so I grab a cup and go to fill it up with the fountain drink thingy (like the ones in the gas station). So right there I realize I'm dreaming, and I start repeating over and over again that I'm dreaming. I go to get out of bed, when all of a sudden I can't move or do anything. This shadow thing then came into my room and just stood there. Everything was really dark so I couldnt see what it was. I tried to raise my hands up to look at them to make everything clear and whatnot, but I cant get them up. I then started hearing voices. I can't remember what they said, but back then they scared the shit out of me. I started trying my hardest to raise my hand so that I could snap, because in the lucid dream I had like 4 years ago, snapping always worked. I got my hand up, but I couldn't do anything with it. Then something started choking me. About this time I really started panicking and wanting to wake up. I finally closed my eyes and just sat there thinking that I wanted to wake up, and then I did. So then I just sat there, and didn't go back to sleep for like an hour.

Yeah, so it wasn't the greatest LD, but it was still and LD. I thought knowing that you were dreaming would make anything not scary anymore, but I guess I was wrong. The fact that I was aware that it was a dream seemed to make it worse, because I couldn't do anything. It was pretty frickin gay...

I think I saw a couple topics on how to combat that sort of thing in the dream control section. Everyone has their own hurdles

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

Sorry, I just wrote up a great reply, but accidentally closed the window...

Anyway... what you experience is not a lucid dream but is commonly known as (conscious) sleep paralyses (SP). You're on the verge to REM-sleep. In short, it's nothing to be afraid of if you know what it is. You should have a positive mental attitude towards it and not fear it, but relax and enjoy it. You can enter a LD straight from SP easily.

I experienced many occasions of SP, never experienced something negative in them. I informed myself before though, so I prepared myself in case I would hit SP sometime in my travel through lucidity. And when I first experienced it I was just totally relaxed and enjoyed it. I heard wind rushing through aluminium foil in a wide open space at night. My body vibrated but once you experience these kind of halluscinations you're prepared for anything that is to come.

Ohhh Kk thanks. I was sort of thinking that it was SP, because I had just been reading about it a lot during the day. I had also been reading about all the hallucinations that people feel, which is why I think I felt most of what I read about...At first I was telling myself to be calm, but then when I really felt like I was being choked I just flipped out...Last night was pretty weird though, because I was trying a lot of different WILDs and whatnot and so I cant remember what was real and what was a dream last night...Oy this is getting confusing

Yeah I understand what you're saying. Maybe you should try relaxation techniques some time during the day or before sleep. Meditation or self-hypnosis... Really try and disassociate from your body if you practice this. Then you can easily get used to the state of SP because - for me - the states are very similar. Very heavy body, and in SP not movable. Autosuggestion in these relaxation states is very efficient. When anything happens, just gently 'believe it away', feel it going away without (!) wanting it to go away; imagine it, but not forcefully. Just realize that you're in control.

you were probably in a lucid dream, and started to wake up into SP.

i used to get SP quite often (less frequent now), and on some occasions i heard frightening, guttural growling inches above my head, oe the feeling of a weight on my chest and not being able to breath, etc.

once i learned it was a natural phenomenon, i gradually was able to stay calm and use SP to fully enter a lucid dream.

nothing can hurt you, and although a choking feeling or rapidly beating heart sometimes accompanies SP, if you remain calm it will pass within seconds...it seems like becoming fearful and struggling only prolongs and intensifies such negative experiences.

your body goes through SP many times every night, and manages not to suffocate you...relax, and trust it, regardless of whether or not hypnagogic hallucinations try to fool you into becoming apprehensive.

it would be a shame if you let this turn you off lucid dreaming

      sweet dreams..

Kk Thanks people...Now I think it would be kind of cool to go back into the sleep paralysis...During sleep paralyisis are your eyes open and you just see things??? If so, then I think the dark shadowy thing in my room was my dog, and when I put my hand out to make it go away, it thought I was trying to pet it...poor dog...anyway I had another 1 second LD...I was driving to these random places with my friends, when I started making out with this one chick. She got out of the car, and I started making out with her friend. Well then one of their brothers found out, so I was gonna get the shit beat out of me. I then started saying that I wish it was a dream. Then i realized for a split second it had to be a dream!! I then had a false awakening and started building a new state of the art prison (it was shaped like a castle...)

anyway so technically Ive had two LDs....grrr

Do an RC whenever you wake up... 2 quick ones like nose and hands usually suffice.

For all I know, during SP your eyes are always closed because technically you're more asleep than awake. AFAIK you can control your eyes (move eyeballs) and your breathing. Opening your eyes would wake up you up.
Seeing dark shapes is very typical for SP halluscinations.

Alright so the first two were technically lucids but they were pretty sucky and short. But now, I finally had like a 5-10 minute one. whoo. So I remember like watching myself gliding down the mainstreet here in town and then I saw myself stop and talk with all these people standing on the corner. I realized 'hey, how can i be looking at myself talking to people, this must be a dream.'' I repeated that over and over and over because that's what I figure has to help or something. Then I decided to look at my hands and study my figerprints and stuff. my hands actually looked pretty realistic and I was suprised, but if I looked too closely the resolution was really crappy and blurry. But yeah so after a while I decided to make a bed in the street, just to sorta see what I could do...It turned out to be like a crappy recliner that was all broken and eaten by moths but whatever. I turned around and tried again, and this time it was a couch but it was still pretty fucked up. I tried again and didn't get anything more. At that point I decided to go somewhere else, so I just imagined myself there, turned around and I was in a mexican restaraunt. It wasn't really what I wanted (I wanted to be in New York). I decided to make some kind of monster to scare all the people, and so I decided to use my cell phone as a kind of wand to make things happen, because I figured that'd make things easier to do. I opened my phone and pushed some buttons and didnt get anything. I think I did make a spider though, because then I decided to kill the spider. I only had to think about it and all of a sudden this flash of light came down and the spider died. I was kinda disappointed but I guess it was a good accomplishment for my first lucid dream. Anyway so then I spent the rest of the dream trying to find this one girl, and then when I finally did and I started taking her clothes off, I woke up.

Yeah it was pretty cool though, and the weird thing is, I hadn't slept for 48 hours before I went to sleep last night. I wasn't even thinking about LDing at all, and usually the only thing I do before I go to sleep is think about reality checks and such. Yeah but it was pretty cool even though I didn't really have much control.

      DC's suckkkkkk

So anyway, I had this really long dream during which I was trying to kill the redcoats cuz they were trying to take America back only it was the modern world and blah blah. So then I decide to bring this high powered rifle and a bazooka to school. As I'm walking up on the grass, I start to get worried that I'm gonna get in trouble but then this voice in my head is like ''Don't worry,it's just a dream'' and then just like in the cartoons, I'm like ''Yeah true, it's just a dream...''' and then I keep walking and then it hits me and I'm like '''Its just a dream!!!'' so then I go to pull out the rifle and shoot people when this guy walks up and says ''I'm going to have to take that'' and I start telling him its a dream and he's like ''No it's not, you retard, how could you dream if you're still awake?'' and then I'm like ''oh yeahhhhhhhh'' and then I had this false awakening. Yeah, dream characters are good liars. I don't like them.

I keep laughing at the way you type your stories. Not at your grammar and spelling, but just the way you say it. "so yea, dream characters are good liars."

Haha yeah, I like to talk weird and write weird on purpose...I'm just pretty weird.

Anyway so I had another LD. It seems like I just have them like every night or two. It was a really long one, so I can't really remember it, plus I sorta didn't try to remember it after I woke up, so it's pretty much my fault.

I can't remember the whole thing but I do remember some key parts. I decided to do a bunch of reality checks to see whats up. I looked at my left hand and examined it closely, and it looked like a bunch of the fingers were broken. I looked at my left hand and there were two extra fingers growing out of my middle finger. That was pretty cool. Then I decided to read something so I went to my friends refridgerator and read some magnets. At first glance everything looked totally normal, but then I looked closer and it all said ''mmdhp ddfgf nhpp'' and stuff like that. I laughed at the retardedness of it. Well anyway, I did some other things like turn my friend into Pikachu, and then I killed the Pikachu. I was trying to do it with my head, so it was really hard and that's why I had to picture him as Pikachu first. I had to chase him down first, and I was going to fly, but then I decided that would probably be too hard and I'd wake myself so I just ran, but my running felt like there were ropes tying my legs together. That sucked. I also asked another friend what exactly was he since I know he isn't real. He answered like he'd answer in real life ''Why the fuck would I know, I'm too tired.'' I got a kick outta that. Yeah it was fun though...I just hope I keep having LDs like this every other night cuz it's cool. Oh also, it was yet another false awakening that made me because non lucid. It was weird cuz even though I did the reality checks, and saw that I was still mutated, I didn't realize it was a dream...
