Im not sure if this qualifies as an Astral Projection. I only have a vague understanding of the concept. I'll do my best to describe the events that happened.

Yesterday morning, I was having a string of Wilds like i usually do... where i go in and out of dreams with ease... Well I awoke from one dream... (and i know what some of you are going to say... that this was just a false awakening... but i am ALMOST positive that it was not&#33

Im lying on my side (my right side) with one of my eyes open and i can see my (left) arm stretched out infront of me... HERE"S THE REALLY WEIRD PART I DONT KNOW WHAT TO MAKE OF:

So im looking at my arm and I go to lift it UP... I FEEL the sensation of MY ARM MOVING... but the image of my arm stays completely still... THEN... TO MY ABSOLUTE AMAZEMENT... I see this SECOND ARM moving up and down, perfectly corresponding with the sensations i was feeling, at times intersecting with, then passing through my "first" arm... only this second arm was kind of translucent and faded in and out until it finally went away, and i was able to move my "real" arm again like normal...

I rolled over and laid there for a while thinking about what had happened and it wasnt until later that the strangeness and perhaps gravity of the experience hit me.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has had a similiar experience!

Usually it happens in SP. You can move in SP, although not your physical body, of course, and your arms are easier to move than anything else. Moving anything else is usually too hard and you get pinned down anyway. You can see what you move, too, if you strain. My arms look translucent, just like yours. Maybe it's a general rule. I always wondered why translucent.
Or maybe you dreamt all of it and it matched what I described accidentally. Such things happen, too.
it wasnt until later that the strangeness and perhaps gravity of the experience hit me[/b]
Usually it doesn't hit in a dream, so maybe that was the point when you woke up fully.

Yes, I agree with follower. It sounds exactly like SP but when you have SP you usually get excited or scared straight away, not afterwards.

Sorry i was wondering, what is SP?

I´ve been having weird experiences lately in lucid dreams. Of swinging back and forth from being aware of my physical body numb and immovable and my dreaming body and my dreams. I feel like i can see myself but not with my eyes. Its like jumping my awareness back and forth.

Its definately not a false awakening and its incredibly hard to describe but im experiencing it more and more.

      someweirdsin,

SP is a paralysis of your physical body, accompanied by a feeling of being pressed down. If you move you feel great resistance. Other effects that some people experience are fear, a feeling of presence, evil hallucinations.
What you describe is SP since the body is paralyzed in REM , but not in a meaning that SP is usually used here, as a transitional state when you’re conscious in your paralyzed physical body without being conscious in a full dream.

I'm not sure that this was just SP.
According to my interpretation of an episode of Art Bell, years ago, this is exactly how you get to an OBE.
That's exactly what it sounds like to me too.
      OBEs happen DURING SP.
I don't totally believe in OBEs, but I've been trying them for years.

That's true, but it the topicstarter didn't have an OBE. He didn't get anything else out of his 'body', save for his arm
It wasn't necessarily a potential start for an OBE, though. It could be a potential start for a LD. You can never know what happens...

      That was a partial OBE.....

Had he tried to then roll over, or contentrated on getting lighter and lighter, he might've been out (of his body)...

But if you WERE viewing all of this arm-through-arm action, then there's a chance your HEAD was poking out of your body as well....

I've had lots of obes where i've only gotten half out of the body, and then gotten excited/distracted and been pulled back in.

I've had that same experience many times...usually also during a string WILDs as you describe. It's just a part of SP, and hypnogogia...it occurs in that trance like state in between lucids. It is strange when it happens, but I've gotten used to it. Some people think it has to do with OBE or AP or whatever...but...I seriously doubt that. Though, I'm open to whatever. I have experienced this enough times to realize that it's just a state similar to being hypnotized.

ya this is close to Astral Projecting or an Out-of Body Experience.....
you shouldve kept going to a complete seperation...... the dream world and the Astral world are almost the same but not.....think of all three including Reality as rooms in one big house.....they are almost all the same
Dreams are like stars...you may never touch them, but if you follow them they will lead you to your destiny.”

According to the Casteneda paradigm, you have reached "The Third Gate of Dreaming", which is the precursor to having OBEs. It's described in his book "The Art of Dreaming". The Gate is crossed when you get a complete separation and are able to move around in this new "ghost body".

Your experience is directly mirrored by the author Graham Kane, in his book "Toltec Dreamer", except that it was his leg that developed a "ghost leg", but apart from that, his initial experience of the Third Gate is exactly the same as yours. It's in the chapter entitled "Left Leg Lift". Both books are worth reading if you want to know more about this subject.

Oneiro, why are you advertising this book all the time, are you Graham Kane?
Those gates... hmmm... it's only logical that you must enter them in proper order. Maybe your 3rd gates are fake.

Follower.. if you've got a problem with me, then just say so, instead of pontificating around subjects without contributing anything concrete. What are you? Just a cheap thrills merchant? A wannabe?

What? I was joking! Well, it's obviously not me having problems...
I don't even know what 'thrills merchant' is and it's strange that you called me a wannabe, was I trying to behave like someone else?
I already contributed to this topic, by the way

was years ago, but I had an experience of falling off of a top bunk, but it was my astral self that fell off Managed to catch myself in mid-air and float a bit before walking around, through closed doors and all. The experience was so so awesomely real, all the surroundings seemed to be right, my room, everything in it. Of course, this could have been one of those uber-LDs. It was my first experience of such a thing. wicked cool
