Lucid - Unable to wake up

After having a lucid dream, I searched Google and ended up here. It went like this.

I am in my room and I am not doing much (can't remember). At one moment I realize that I am dreaming, and I want to wake up! (quite the contrary to what most people I have seen try to do on this forum). The reason for trying to awake was that everything had a slightly tense/scary feel.
I first tried to wake myself by concentrating "wake up". This failed. I then tried slapping my open hands against my thighs (I was laying down in bed in the dream at this point). I slapped my thighs as hard as I could, but there was no pain, in fact there was basically no feeling at all, only the slightest tingle, as if I was very lightly moving a finger on it (which is the reason I tried to hit harder!).

Next, I tried slapping my face. The same thing happened. I felt a slight feeling that I was touching my face, but no pain was there that should have been (slapping my face at full strength).

After slapping for a while I managed to wake up. However, when I woke up, the state that I was in was "barely awake". I was extremely tired when I awoke. It was like when somebody wakes you (with a sound) when you are very tired, and you just roll to the other side and continue sleeping.

That is exactly what I did. I fell asleep again.
I again realized that I was dreaming. This time I did a test. I tried to turn on a lamp that I knew did not work. It turned on. Again I tired to wake myself using the above mentioned methods.
I then "falsely awoke". I got up out of bed and looked across the room. There was no wall there! Just something that looked like space. (this made things easy, I instantly knew it was a dream). I continued to try to wake myself, and finally did.
Next thing I did was search Google and find this site!

By the way. This dream was after I had slept for around five hours, gotten up out of bed to drink something, and returned to bed. I have read of this significance (getting 5-6 hours of sleep before lucid dreaming) before coming to this site.

After today, I think I will try to do it on purpose, with your guidance and tips of course

It can be an amazing experience. Was this the first time you've experienced lucid dreaming? Welcome to the site, I hope you quickly learn to embrace LDing!

I remember when I was quite young and was LD'ing and could not wake myself from the dream. It was very frightening. I finally learned how to wake myself and that fear passed. There was one time when I was quite a bit older (maybe in my 20's and wasn't able to wake myself and I thought that maybe I had died) Now I do my best to stay in that state and would be just happy if I did not return here. Not that I have a bad life. Quite the contrary. I have a great life here. I just like it more there. To me there isn't really a comparison.

I guess I was pretty lucky to know about lucid dreaming before my first so I could enjoy it to its fullest. Congrats on doing it but next time it will hopefully be better

An easy 100% successful way to wake up from a Lucid Dream is so simulate excitement, simulate the feeling of dancing extremely fast waving your physical body parts as fast as you can. Another way to word it would be to increase anxiety.

Funny how many people struggle with staying in Conscious Dreams and here we have people with difficulty getting out of them! Deadevil, that also would explain why when people succeed in Lucidity they break out because of over excitement.

Closing your eyes is the most reliable way to wake up from your lucid dream. Of course check to make sure that it was a real awakening, but it should work.

Yeah, I was just about to post this. Since childhood, everytime I've closed my eyes and just repeated to myself, "just a dream, wake up, wake up" calmly to myself while also picturing myself back in my bed, I end up waking up. This only happens either during nightmares or in situations I want to get out of in a dream.
Ironically, my most recent lucid dream consisted of this feeling, and I told myself in the dream to "wake up", but then I stopped myself because I realized at that point that I was actually dreaming and could become lucid instead.

When scary things happen in dreams and then you become lucid, it is really healthy to face your fears. Confront the thing that is chasing you or scaring you and it will go away or stop being scary. Sometimes I say outloud "stop being scary," then the dream will take on a much more pleasent, less tense feel.

The best way to get out of the dream is to close your eyes, but this often leads to false awakenings. It is far better to face up to your fears, because nothing in your dreams can really hurt you.
