      Using computers

Hey all, i just had a non-lucid dream, and as usual i have had another expirience that i want to try when lucid...
i was using a computer in the nonlucid dream and it sort of acted a bit strange, i think i may have been concious enough to think about what i was doing, in real life i am a good touchtyper and i dont usually have bad mistakes, in the dream i sat at the computer, looked at the screen and tried to type in a url into internet explorer, but what happened was that i kept making mistakes, but the words i wanted were still there, just like
      instead of http://google.com/
      it would be htp:giigle.com/
and i think i was semi-lucid because i was thinking seperately from the dream trying to wonder why it wasnt working,

another funny thing is that the text on-screen wasnt shifty like most other text in my LD's are...
and the dream characters are becoming less and less like me, all with different accents, voices personalities, in the past all the characters said words the same way i said them
like in this dream a character said URL, in the past the DC would have said it like i do which is "U. R. L" but he said it as "Yourlll" which suprised me.
I guess people are not ready for the whole new world that awaits them.

Wow, that sounds really interesting, I must try it sometime, unfourtunatly, I don't become lucid too often.
You could make that a dream sign right? That when you type in something wrong spelled or anything you make a RC. That might work, but perhaps you don't sit by the computer so often in your dreams .
That thing with the personalities is pretty cool, for me DC's can sound very different from me and I guess it's cuz you've seen so many movies and listened to so much music, you've heard a lot of accents and your imagination will fly high . Maybe, when you were younger, you hadn't heard so much which you have now.. I hope you understand what I mean .

Anyway, I wonder what would happen if you started MSN at the computer(while lucid), would you see all your real mates or new strange ones? I guess it's up to you really, but anyways it would be cool to chat with someone, if you are lucid enough so you can read the answers. Maybe it's better to ask your DG questions at MSN than with words, I tihnk you can get more direct answers . Worth testing. Just try to imagine "Dreamguide" in your MSN list , of course online too!
      Dreams are cool.. : )

One reason why text can get kinda messed up in dreams is because the part of your brain responsible for reading and writing is pretty much shut off. Because of this, text will change if you look at it, look away, and then look back at it. This makes for a perfect reality check.

Yea I've noticed that too, but a lot of people have said that they have seen text VERY clear.. even if it will change if they look away and right back at it. But you don't need to do that. Just wait for the answer and read it really fast .

i think i didnt say in the first post, but the text was PERFECT. i looked away and back multiple times and it was still the same(though i wasnt lucid)
just whatever i typed wasnt correct, but it was VERY close, maybe is becuase i type so much even without my reading/writing system on i can still pretty much type well in the dream world.

      "giigle.com" hehehehee that's cute!!!

Yeah, that's an evil trick...I had a similar dream, where a reality check failed because the dream was too clear and vivid. I guess our subconscious doesn't WANT us to become lucid so that we'll sleep deeper instead of play. LoL, I dunno. I got nuttin.

Damn, I REALLY want you to have a spectacular lucid soon, so you can draw an adorable pic to go with it .

I have had the exact same experience.

I was using a search engine to locate a friend of mine. Unfortunately, everytime I typed his name I got something completely different from what I wanted. I did it several times. The final time I got close so I decided to hit enter anyway and see if the engine would bring up anything useful. It scrolled through a list of names and I can remember a few of them. Mostly just those ridiculous 'leet-speak' names with the '3's for 'E's and '7's for 'L's. Quite aggravating, actually. I was surprised at it since most folks claim it's impossible to read in your sleep.

I think you can read so long as you are reading something that your brain wants you to know, such as signs and such. Mayhap you really cannot decipher the words so much as your brain tells you what the words are in advance. I'm not sure, though, considering the above dream I had. It seemed as though I was reading them.

Perhaps some people have a more active left brain during REM sleep?

You know Stephen LaBerge wrote something similar to this...Alot of people claimed you couldn't say your own name in your dream without waking up- however Stephen could. Perhaps whatever you expect to happen happens? Like, after reading all this stuff about not being able to read in dreams, you expect that to happen.
