My HI changes from night to night. I usually see:
faces, animals, monsters -- usually still images
      blobs, whirls, geometric zooming patterns
      solitare cards

That makes me think... lucid dream task: beat your subconscious at a game of poker.
Wonder if the cards would be stable enough for long enough?

How does one go about getting HI?

This somehow seems interesting to me...and I've always wanted to know what it is like to hallucinate.

I don't think I've ver had true HI. Its just weak phospenes. If I'm trying to WILD I can change the blobs and colors, but nothing solid happens. They just look like blobs that are formed into the shape of a building.

Here is a tutorial on sleep paralysis, which is often when HI happens.

Everyone gets HI. Just most people don't notice it because they've already lost self-awareness.

      Question What is HI?

Sorry to clutter this topic, but what is a HI? Drug high? Hallucination Imagery? The stuff you see when you close your eyelids?

Hypnagogic imagery: These are images or sounds that come as impulses during the onset of a hallucinogenic state. Usually before or after sleep. Sometimes through meditation. These images & sounds are random and can sometimes lead to HIT. The Hypnagogic Imagery Technique.
Basically, the crazy images, sounds, and sensations you sometimes feel while falling asleep, they are dream-like, but not dreams exactly. Hypnaogogia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnagogia

No problem, cryptic There are a few others that people use, and people are always making up new ones that are just variations of old ones... but those are the very basic core ones that pretty much everyone on the site is familiar with

My HI looks like this :

"The world is your playground. There are bumps along the way but this playground comes with a fully equipped toolbox with equipment out there to solve ANY disease, problem or issue out there. ONE problem. Some tools are harder to find than others. Lucid dreaming is just one of them."

      HI...hmm...

Well, mine is incredibly dynamic. Flashes of color and fractal patterns can give way to detailed scenes roughly sketched or intricately woven. A lot of times they'll follow a set artistic style or medium - a couple nights ago everything was very Art Nouveau. It's interesting what my mind comes up with, and I've gotten ideas for art projects that way. Trying to sleep is my kind of homework!

My HI consists more of sounds than images. I hear clips of music or voices mostly. As far as sight, I get pulsing white fractal swirls and discs against blackness mostly. Sometimes it's cooler than that. Reckon I never paid too much attention to it.

It begins with random patterns and colors, and then small, movie-like images come up. Some even stimulated my tactile perceptions.

I'm a bit confused... you all seem to know what yours is, yet, I have no idea what mine is. Is there a way to become more aware and be able to tell what it is for yourself? I don't recall anything like this happening as I go to sleep...

Try WILDing until you start seeing images. Extremely vivid and (in my case it's tactile and animated) very dream-like. They are usually forming around some sort of base.
