didnt realize i could control my dream

has anyone ever realized theyre dreaming, but at the same time had no idea that you could control it?

last night i was dreaming that i was on a beach on a cloudy day, yet there were thousands of people there. i saw an explosion in the water and knew that it would react with the water to produce poisonous gasses , yet for some reason i just kept walk all calm like. next thing i know im tackled the ground and told to keep my nose in the sand, and use it as kind of like an air filter, just as i look around and notice that everyone else is doing it, a blue tarp is throw over us. i remember thinking, "man it really feels like my nose is in sand right now" then i realized i was dreaming but instead of realizing that i could change my situation, i decided to wake up.

im thinking that either i had a dream of dreaming and realizing that i was dreaming. or that my dream seemed so solid the thought of supernaturally flying into the sky didnt cross my mind, cause let me tell you, it really did feel like my nose was in sand

I have ahd a lot of dreams like this. I will stop and tell my self I was dreaming, but then just go with the flow of the dream and not try to change anything. It is common to have these dreams. I wouldn't let it get you down too much.

I have also had dreaming where after becomeing lucid I tell my self to wak up, this mostly happens with nightmares though

ya, it is kind of a bummer when you wake up though and realize what type of experience you may or may not have missed out on

Yes I have experienced this as well although it does not happen that often. I would say this has to do with your awareness level in the dream. Seems like you were on a limbo per say had you been a little bit more aware you probablly would of been lucid with control. Instead of being somewhat lucid, but with your head in the clouds.
