1st Lucid Dream (DC & flying issues)

So I had my first lucid dream a few nights ago... I dreamt that I was in a house trying to escape someone, and 2 girls whose faces I couldn't see offered me a broomstick to fly away on. This was the point where my vision and sense of touch became clear, I saw my hand grab the detailed wood and I thought "Woah, I'm dreaming"... But whilst this was happening, another person was stood in front of me looking very down and was muttering to no-one in particular about her problems which disturbed me a bit. I tried ignoring her but couldn't. I tried focusing on the faces of the girls but they remained fuzzy.
Back to the broomstick, I didn't agree with flying on a broom, so I rewound time. Back at the situation again, all of the girls had gone, and instead there was a man, who suggested I light a small fire to smoke the room out. He helped me light the fire - in which I could strongly smell the smoke, and I managed to change it to a pleasant flowery incense smell. But he didn't seem very happy when helping me, his face was very serious and he seemed distant/indifferent.
I then stepped onto the windowsill to jump out of the window and fly, but found that I couldn't. So I ran downstairs out of the house and summoned a winged creature (like a very large white eagle), and we flew above the clouds comfortably in a strong head wind.

      Questions...
      1) In lucid dreams, can you learn to control other DC? Or will they always have their own "minds"?
      2) I stopped myself from flying on my own, are there any tips on getting over this and learning to fly without props?

      Thank you in advance!

That's quite the first experience. You are very lucky you are able to dream control even that much the first time you ever LD. The more you attempt to dream control the easier it will be as well as the more you can control.
The only thing I can say about your second question is that you have to really believe when you are dreaming that it is possible for you to fly. So the next time you try it try to even think or say it aloud when attempting to fly.. Good luck!

Well for for the first question... I dont really know but usually in my experience whenever I go lucid other dream people seem to just freeze. Its almost as if there is a glitch in the system, I dont know how to explain it. This happens with dream characters after I interact with them while lucid. If I haven't interacted with them they just keep doing whatever they were doing before and seem to pay no attention to me. Just last night I managed to lucid dream after a while of not being able to do it and I was able to actually talk with someone for a bit. I was sitting next to a girl and we talked and it was the first time they didnt freeze. One thing is certain I've never been able to control them. If they're hostile I can destroy them or make them disappear but not control them.

And the second question... I actually came here to ask the same thing. I can fly, although its difficult. The best way to do it in my experience is to start hopping around like a rabbit. Then you try to spend more and more time in the air, and eventually you stop touching the ground. When you're floating then you just try to impulse yourself in the direction you want to move, much in the same way as when you're swimming. Except it will be MUCH faster than when you're swimming.
My problem is that when I'm very high in the air and going really fast I cant seem to control altitude... I tend to fly towards the ground... if that makes sense. I cant fly straight like birds or airplanes.

That's a very cool first lucid!
Especially the parts where you control aspects of your dreams, considering this is your first LD, this is quite something.

      1) This is a tough one.
Having read experiences from other people on these forums, they partially conflict with each-other and also mine, so I'm assuming it's bit different for everyone.
For some people, DC's "stop working" once they become lucid. I've never experienced this.
Personally, I have a very easy time manipulating DC's with my mind.
Somehow, I know that this "should be easy" since they are just a figment of my imagination.
If I project a thought onto them, it becomes their thought and they do whatever I put into their heads.
Well, mostly anyways. Sometimes they misunderstand, or I overdo it and they go nuts.

      2) Uuh, I don't know. As a kid I used to just jump on the spot. I figured if I tried often enough in a row it would eventually work, and it usually did.
I grew tired of it at some point and just started to jump off buildings, which usually did the trick.
Nowadays it seems very easy. I don't really think about it.
Sometimes I just float away, sometimes I grow wings etc.

      Dreams are simple.
It's the painfully simple things the human mind cannot comprehend.
After all your mind is trained to understand the complexity of the waking world,
not the simplicity of the dream world.

Thanks for all of your help! Next time I will try believing next time.

Sogol: thanks for the tip about jumping! I will try this technique too! It must be weird having people freeze, but it's good that you can destroy them if need be! Mine just tended to talk over me, and it was as though I didn't fit into their world despite it being my dream! I guess I destroyed them in a way by rewinding... might work on that.

Hyu: that's so cool that you can project thoughts into their minds! I guess one person finds something easy in LDs that others find difficult, and vice versa. I would love to be able to make them stop making me feel nervous next time though! Growing wings.... Hmmm, that's given me an idea... if I can't fly on my own.... I could try grow wings as a "prop"!

I guess I was pretty lucky with my first lucid! But now I am frantically waiting for my next one :p and I haven't been able to recall dreams for 2 nights now (hoping this is down to me suffering tonsillitis at the mo!)

Thanks again everyone! It is very much appreciated
