After writing this (my above post) I did a little meditation based off of what I read previously in your tutorials about Void and Focal meditation techniques. I proceeded to breath with my eyes open for roughly 2 minutes then began to drift into relaxation. Ok so here's something interesting I picked up. For about the first 10-15 minutes of my meditation I tried your void method (none the less I am pretty sure this is the means of meditation I have gone about since having started the practice of meditation) and remained calm dismissing any absurd thoughts that would normally occur and this worked well. After that 15~ minute (mental mark w/e you wish) I thought about the Focal method. At this point I thought of the most basic thing I could've for this process- a lit candlestick. This is where things got interesting. As I proceeded to this Focal session within the...session I noticed that once I began focusing on the flame of the candlestick, the blackened void my mind sees while meditation began (yes, i know, how can you see darkness expand blah blah) to seem like it was expanding, almost like a circular opening as your retinas expanding in light I could dip my whole head into. It was very strange and I tried my hardest to keep this up, and did for a few minutes. After this phase of my session, which lasted maybe 10 more minutes I began feeling... I guess you could say refreshed and fluid-like. So, what I'm trying to say is for any of you out there struggling, try what I did and (I believe I read this in your tutorial, short term memory is whack) do the void procedure until you feel the peak of your relaxation, then go about the Focal and see if you notice anything. |
