Tibetan Yogas of dream and sleep is probably the best book on the subject for us westerners. Easy to understand. Not to much "mumbo-jumbo"......

Sounds to me like a low level LD. it have happened to me to on some occasions - some dreams are just harder to recall, especially if you don't keep a drsam journal. You really answered it yourself....

I belive the definition of lucid dreaming is being aware that you are dreaming. So technically when saying to yourself "this is a dream" - you've had a LD. However how aware you are in a LD can vary....
