      Reocurring Nightmare Involving Serpents

For the last several years, since age 15 I'd say, almost every nightmare I've had has involved a snake. Sometimes, there are thousands of snakes (both poisonous and not) all around me, which I have to wade through. Other times, there are only one or two snakes, often times poisonous, but I cannot escape them. Sometimes I get bitten, while other times I do not. I do not have a phobia of snakes though. In fact, as a child I would catch any reptile that I was able to find, including snakes. I even had a pet ball python once, not to mention what garter snakes, bull snakes, and racers I was able to find. I've come across rattlesnakes while walking, but I've never been bitten, and if not for the dreams (and fear of being bitten) I would enjoy watching them from afar.

      Examples of my dreams are:

      - I am at Slide Rock in AZ, which is basically a natural water slide. I saw a rattlesnake there once, but in my dream there are thousands of snakes all around me. Cobras, anacondas, rattlers, even ball pythons. Although I want to, I can't escape them.

      - I am walking in my neighborhood, when out from a storm gutter comes a tangled mass of rattlesnakes. I'm talking like the Rat King of rattlesnakes, all tangled up in each other, moving as one entity in their pursuit of me.

I've had dreams like that, when I was about that same age as a matter of fact. Well, I guess we know what Dr Frued would say, eh? But I honestly think sometimes a snake is just a snake, and they might represent anxieties or just be a common nightmare image since it's known that snakes and spiders are hardcoded into us as things to be scared of. Do your dreams ever begin with just one snake and then they start multiplying? Mine used to be like that a lot, and sometimes would end with the giant king of all snakes, so huge it wrapped literally around the horizon on both ends. I also used to dream about seeing animals in the yard and outside around the house, first innocuous ones like rabbits, then goats and horses, then bears and tigers, and sometimes all the way up to T Rexes. I'd be scared and try to make sure all the doors were locked but my mom would either go around and open them or let the dog out so I had to rescue him. Then there was the one where she was chopping vegetables in some kind of psychotic rage and refused to believe me that there were dangerous animals gathering around the house. Yeah, I think it was something about either the dangers out there in the big scary world, or maybe the ones inside that I was just beginning to see. Either way, I'm sure the animal dreams were about the security of family (or lack thereof rather). The snake ones were probably something similar, but I don't really know. At any rate I know a lot of other people have had similar dreams. They're probably archetypal dreams. Google that, it's quite fascinating.
