Why do you think our God/Gods made us...or maybe you don't believe in a God. If so, do you still have an opinion on why we are here?

Don't forget to be open minded.

Exactly, and we are here to find the question.

The meaning of life is to experience isn't it? and to pave the way for future life.

I don't like the idea of being here to feed some deities ego by worship or to be his/her entertainment.

i don't think there is any inherent meaning in life. So the answere "42" actually makes more sense to me. Not only because of the Hitch Hikers Guide but also because of it's randomness. I think things are just random.

Oh, and we aren't here to find the question, more specificly, what we call mice are here to find the question.

I don't belief in God, heaven, hell, anything; I base my opinions purely on scientific reasoning. Anyway, I also think there is no "purpose" of life. I think life is just a natural phenomenon. Come to think of it, I don't think anything really has a prepondered purpose (except for the things we create). I think the entire universe is just a phenomenon. No reason, no rhyme. It's just the way things happened. Now, of course, many natural things have a purpose. Our heart pumps blood, chlorophyll absorbs light for photosynthesis, etc. But I don't think the purpose of these things was planned. It's form fits function. What works works, what doesn't doesn't. It's all chance.

      To go back in time:
I am here becouse my parents had sex.
They existed becouse their relatives before them survived.
A long long time ago, we came from the same animals as apes do.
Those animals survived, reproduced, and thus continued to exist.
The first animal to live on land, came from the sea.
In the sea were fish, that all allso reproduced and thus survived.
Multi-cell organisms grew more and more complex.
A single cell organism became a multi-cell organism.
A bunch of monecules with a hydrophobe end and a hydophile end formed a little 'bubble' that began to reproduce.
      The earth was formed.
      The big bang.

      -

I am a result of the big bang. I am just a part in an endless table of domonios. It just be happenin'.

There is no meaning, but I like that

      You my friend, are correct.

(Except for the "bubbles" that formed were much more complex than lipids, and molecules that behave like them, forming membranes. It also involves a natural creation of nucleic acids, and later RNA, which entered these bubbles. The bubbles began performing simple chemical reactions, which I wouldn't really call a metabolism yet, and they also began to reproduce. This led to cells. But yeah, you summarized it well enough lol.)

What is the meaning of life?

Thats a question not meant to be answered, and never will be.
An Idea. A single idea from the human mind can build cities. An idea can transform the world and rewrite all the rules.

      It's a theory, not fact.

The no purpose in life is just too depressing to consider. There's too many unexplainable things in this world to just think that we are born, grow up, and die. If we have no purpose, why bother going to school? Why get a job and pay taxes and raise a family? Your way of thinking just makes me want to go out to the street and buy an ounce of heroin and become a junky. What's stopping you?

I have my beliefs in some spiritual aspects, but I am still not religious (I don't believe in heaven/hell/Jesus). Personally, I think the meaning of life is to give life meaning. It doesn't get any simpler than that.

We go to school and get a job and have a family because we want to have a high quality of life. We don't want to suffer. But that is still unrelated to purpose. And why would a purposeless life depress someone?

Not everything has to have a purpose in order for it to be good.

Same as all the other animals. To help complete the circle, just like the lion king. We just got the brains to contimplate a higher purpose (though i dont really see any within clear view)
Because theres nothing better to do. And I have to admit i enjoy all three.

Think about it. It makes you, me, and everybody else insignificant. Once you're dead, your friends are dead, and your family is dead it'll be like you never existed, just like the purposeless life you led. You're a microplankton in the universe and there's nothing you can do about it. Pretty encouraging, isn't it? I feel motivated.

Not everything has to have a purpose in order for it to be good.[/b]
      Name something.

Well, it seems we're treading on beliefs now. And don't worry, I'm not defending religion, but I'm not agreeing wholeheartedly with science (I'm not 100% on either). Let's just put down that I don't mean any offense with the things I say.

The meaning of live is living, life inherently has no meaning, we live to give life meaning.

Just think about it, life is most uncommon, we are a miracule, do you think this miracule is random, I DONT THINK SO! I sincereley believe in a life mission, not destiny, for we can choose to do it, do you belive in this?

      Cold Blooded,

It doesn't make any sense to not beleive in something just because it is too depressing. I for what wouldn't be able to do that. I would know that i was just fooling myself. If something makes sense, why not believe in it. To me it makes sense to say "i have found no meaning in the universe, and don't antisipate one."

Sure it sounds depressing when you describe it the way you do... being insignificant and nothing you do matters. (that kinda reminded me of the movie Groundhogs Day. It is a superb movie with this them of how to live a life when nothing you do matters)

But think of the consequences of a purposeless life like this... if there is no reason to do anything- one thing isn't inharently better than anything else. This gives one the incredible option to choose completely free of any rules. "You can do what ever the fuck you want" like existentialist wrote somewhere else.

      You are incredibly free...

Can you see this? It is amazing how free we are to choose our lives.

The meaning of life is to discover the meaning of life which is that the meaning of life is to discover the meaning of life.

I'm not depressed with life's apparent lack of purpose, quite the opposite.. If life is inherently purposeless, it's up to you to define one. What's more optimistic than that? If you're intelligent/conscious enough to see that there is no inherent purpose in life, you're intelligent/conscious enough to define your own purpose. And when you're dead, purpose or not, you 'ain't gonna be caring about too much anymore - so death is kind of a moot point. It's up to me to define/develop/discover my own life's purpose. To me this seems even more optimistic than living your life according to some 'purpose' that exists outside yourself.

      1) i believe there is no god/gods
      2) i don't believe we were created (we were just a coincidence)
      3) i don't think there's a meaning of life... say for yourself: does a paramecium has a meaning to its life? then why would we need one? i think the meaning of life was just "invented" to make life (and human life in particular) sound more special, or interresting than that it really is...

the meaning to life is Beethoven's Ninth Symphony

That's pretty much what I'm trying to get at. Hence my first post saying the meaning of life is to give life meaning. If it's important to you get down to it.

By now you're all realizing I'm very two-faced about this entire situation.

And when you're dead, purpose or not, you 'ain't gonna be caring about too much anymore - so death is kind of a moot point.[/b]
You don't know what's going to happen when we die. Nobody does. It's a mysterious road that we all must take, and it's a guaranteed thing as soon as you enter the world. So I guess death, in my perspective as well, is moot.

Damn, I was gonna say that. Of course we still don't know the question to the meaning of life...

Seriously, I think it was evolution. While a believe god/god's/supreme energy source created the universe with all the ingredients for life, I believe that we are here by a freak chance that our planet happened to have them, and we are no more special evolutionarily than any other species, we are just the most advanced, at least for land animals, and i will not be surprised at all if whales or dolphins turn out smarter than us.

.......Then I think of my youth and of my first love-when the longing of desire was strong. Now I long only for my first longing. What is youth? A dream. What is love? The substance of a dream.
