Intectually what man can do with reasoning a bottlenose dolphin can do. Their was a recent test that put humans versus dolphins where they had to work out a problem for a reward. It took the dolphin around about the same time as humans to work out.
Emotionally dolphins will stay with dying dolphin for company this is only expressed in humans theirfore dolphins can show emtions. Also the cells responicble for emotional the swan cell neurons is found in large numbers in dolphins and overal would equal more then humans. Note these cells are found in apes but in very small quantities and in great apes.
Society well dolphins live in large societies like human they have the same structure like teacher and mother then their the hunters e.t.c. Also their is mostly five male figures who are in charge. A dolphins society is the same as a human society. Also their roughly about a thousands dolphins that make up a tribe it hasent been counted much however the number of dolphins are really big in tribes.
Protection wise they dont fight each other so they dont need guns e.t.c. their not barbaric. Also they can work effectivily together like swat teams so they have that covered. It would be stupid to go into why humans have more protection and that mainly to do with wars and being primitive.

while I understand the point of your post, that doesnt mean rats are just creatures that survive poison

rats are also

affectionate
cooperative
adventurous
alert
calm
clean
conscious
passive
energetic
good *show me how rats are evil*
intelligent
observant
trustworthy
well-behaved

and rats have
communication
listening
problem-solving
and
organizing skills, even if its just organizing where their poop goes and where they like to keep their food, its still organizing!

humans may be biologically animals. and we may also be the most advanced animal on earth without a doubt. but dont assume that every good quality about a living thing is reserved for only humans. pet-rat lovers can all tell you how rats are underated - they beat all other pet rodents by far.

"Laughter might not be confined or unique to humans, despite Aristotle's observation that "only the human animal laughs". The differences between chimpanzee and human laughter may be the result of adaptations that have evolved to enable human speech. However, some behavioural psychologists argue that self-awareness of one's situation, or the ability to identify with somebody else's predicament, are prerequisites for laughter, so animals are not really laughing in the same way that we do.

It was discovered that rats emit short, high frequency, ultrasonic, socially induced vocalization during rough and tumble play, and when tickled. The vocalization is described as a distinct “chirping”. Humans cannot hear the “chirping” without special equipment. It was also discovered that like humans, rats have “tickle skin”. These are certain areas of the body which generate more laughter response than other areas. The laughter is associated with positive emotional feelings and social bonding occurs with the human tickler, resulting in the rats becoming conditioned to seek the tickling. Additional responses to the tickling were those that laughed the most also played the most, and those that laughed the most preferred to spend more time with other laughing rats. This suggests a social preference to other rats exhibiting similar responses. However, as the rats age, there does appear to be a decline in the tendency to laugh and respond to tickle skin. The initial goal of Jaak Panksepp & Jeff Burgdorf’s research was to track the biological origins of joyful and social processes of the brain by comparing rats and their relationship to the joy and laughter commonly experienced by children in social play. Although, the research was unable to prove rats have a sense of humor, it did indicate rats can laugh and express joy. Panksepp & Burgdorf 2003 Chirping by rats is also reported in additional studies by Brian Knutson of the National Institutes of Health. Rats chirp when wrestling one another, before receiving morphine, or having sex. The sound has been interpreted as an expectation of something rewarding. Science News 2001"

We have what we call technology. Yea we have the bad but we also have the good. We really don't have any natural predators. Also other animals kill for territory. Some animals will kill and eat until they are sick. Whats the point in that. They had there fill yet they still kill to eat. That I feel is sensless killing, sure they need to eat but don't they know when they had enough.

Some of you saying you think we are lesser than the other animals.... I don't really agree too much. Eaither way what we do is mostly bad kill each other etc. whatever. We are pretty much still at the top. We werent always this way though. We developed language, societies, shelters... how we got all this was by working together. We where.. desperate ha ha. Now we are like fat rich kids sitting on all of our goodies. But we arent all lost. I just say that

Are dolphins intelligent? Yeah, in terms of the animal kingdom they rate fairly highly. However, their intelligence is nowhere near that of humans. This doesn't mean that I don't believe that they can communicate or that humans are 'meant' to be a dominant species or anything, just that dolphins have no evolutionary need for the sort of higher-level intelligence that humans display.

The question isn't "well if dolphins are so smart, why haven't they invented computers and other technology," because, as many people point out, dolphins would have a hard time doing so with their flippers. Instead, the question is "if dolphins lack opposable thumbs, what need would they have for the higher-level intelligence that comes with being able to manipulate objects and use tools?"

Humans exhibit much more sophisticated intelligence simply because it is our only evolutionary advantage. Dolphins can swim and catch fish, and have evolved the intelligence to enable them to communicate and hunt in groups. Humans, without intelligence, are fairly useless, and so we rely on tools and knowledge to survive.

I am not claiming any of those trait are exclusive to humans. In fact, for every trait listed apply the opposite and that too is a trait. Good or bad... it is a trait. Just because dolphins display some of these traits, it seems rather obvious to me how much more sentient humans are.
Good and bad does not choose sides in advancement. You could say survival of the fittest is cruel. All species have that in them. So your point on Dolphins not fighting and war is irrelevant.
I read about that hoaky study too about Some retail store employees being compared to dolphins. Way to pick the elite society to compare to.

Humans are not that advance their only technologically more advanced. A monkey with a gun is not more advanced as a monkey without a gun. [/b]
A monkey or dolphin could have never had the ingenuity to develop a gun much less the knowledge to use it effectively.

That is some interesting info on rats juroara. As I said earlier it is apparent hat each species has their best qualities.
It would be like asking if we can swim as good as a dolphin.

You CAN'T measure 'the best animal' because you will ALWAYS have to measure by some subjective standard. Like I said it is easy to say we are the best animal, if we measure it by our own standards.

So stop procuring long lists (all with things us humans care about): A longer list does Not give you a longer penis, so stop trying. (that include the girls)

You cant sesne when a female is in heat,

You see, hes judgin you by his stadnards
by refferring to guns and such your using our envonroment and standards to judge a dolphin
as marine mammals, they never had the need to adapt opposable thumbs, or even hands

And they are sentinent, defintely

actualy im gonna be honest, i didnt think dolphins were any more intelligent than humans or sentinent
until this thread
then i did a little research
and I 100% believe that they are.

Well the dog can think im stupid but I really dont think any animal is stupid. A dog is by no means stupid. Also true we cannot really know when a female dog is in heat. There are though dog breeders who can determine and this comes from learning and some study. Also humans dont need to go underwater we dont have fins or gills. I mean dolphins dont have gills, but im sure you understand what I mean. Also we can still go underwater and dive thousands of feet with our equipment that we have created through innovation and learning.

Dolphins are prettive passive but still freindly. I like dolphins.

Maybe it would have. And even if it didn't matter, how much in off-topic does matter? It is still intresting.

But it blows if long posts 'disappear'. I think the FBI is behind it...

My attempt by making a list was to Not make it so subjective. While we can obviously compare one dominant trait verse that of another less dominant trait the over all topic was in regards to humans not being the most developed, or somewhere along those lines.

And it was a long list, wasn't it? It was not meant to be picked apart and segregated into this animal has this trait that animal has another...no shit.
The overwhelming list of human traits that I listed show how our developed consciousness sets us asides as more sentient beings that that of which we have been comparing.

I would like to note that each one of those traits also has an opposite. While it may not be something we are proud of in many cases, it does in fact establish the many traits we have evolved to own.
Many "bad" traits are not bad, in a manner of speaking. They arouse out of survival and instinct.
Other more complex emotions may have come along with the nature of our environment and the ability to adapt to that environment.

A (long) list of traits would only (perhaps/in a way) be proof of complexity. Not proof of superiority.

Don't you think that can be percieved to be superior in this contecxt?
Also the relevance to our quickly chaging evolution as a result of our complex makeup.

Are other species advancing that quickly?

It all depends on what kind of superiority people are talking about. If it's sonar navigation, then of course dolphins and bats are superior to humans - no argument there. If we are talking about levels of consciousness and thought then humans are by far superior. Not much to argue there.

I think we are genetically not that different from people 10.000 years ago. You seem to mistake 'cultural evolution' or 'social evolution' with actual genetic evolution. There is a difference you know.

And how are we more complex then all other animals? We are just mammals with large brains. That Lead to complex things mostly after we got a society and language. Pigs also have ways to communicate, and are also innovative in some cases. Take a human away from society, and to an outsider it would look just like any other animal.

Also, you said 'Don't you think that can be percieved to be superior in this contecxt?'... With context did you mean: Looking at the case from a human perspective?. If you look purely objective, you can't say we are the 'best'. What is good to us, had been bad for a lot of animals. Anyhow, the bottom line still is: I don't think you can call us the best species objectively. You can however say we are the species that changed the shape of the earth the most, and are the most innovative, the smartest, ect. Good and bad are different things. I am quite sure we are also the species that killed more of other animals then any other animal has killed.

sloths are the most advanced creatures.

Look! A kitty!

According to Stephen Hawking, advanced awareness and consciousness may not be the ultimate end to the evolutionary process. He points out that cock-roaches will still be here a long time after we have blown ourselves up.
Please don't ask for a source. lol It was in one of his speeches I listened to, but I'm sure it's out there somewhere.
