Theocratic, Libertarian, Utilitarian, Hobbesian View or Free Market Conservatism?

Which political philosophy do you prefer and why?

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theocratic
"God chooses what's legal and what isn't"

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian
"Fuck off it's my body/property/life, if I'm not hurting someone else then it should be legal and the Federal Gov't needs to be extremely limited"

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_market
"Government has no say in the way our business is run"

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utilitarianism
      "The Greater Good"

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leviathan_%28book%29
Hobbesian View - "Without a strong government presence man will revert to its natural, anarchic state with no morals."

Personally, I'm a Libertarian, and for the reason I posted up there. Eff Off, it's my body.

Libertarian at the level of the individual; keeping in mind that coroporations aren't people and don't deserve the same freedoms.

I would say I'm more Libertarian out of those choices... though it would depend on what issue you brought up.

Social issues, on the whole, I would say libertarian. Economic issues... well, that's a different circumstance which warrants a different approach. Etcetera...

Utilitarianism is basically every citizen gives up their personal rights if that will benefit the majority of the community. Granted it's a bit more detailed, but that's it in a nutshell.

Like in Belgium(I think) every citizen is an assumed organ donor at death, they can choose not to be, but it's a process that people don't take the time to do. Belgium has practically Zero Wait times for an organ, but many say it infringes on the person's right to do as they see fit with their body(or loved one's body). That's an example, but a pretty poor one.

      I'm a libertarian.

A government's authority should be no greater than the oversight of its people, and people are lousy at oversight.

If you're none of those you can put your own, this was inspired by a paper I had to do for Social and Political Philosophy, they were our only choices.

What about the situations in which the corporation is just one or a few people? Often times, the problems with a lot of the restrictions placed on corporations is that they are only really a burden for fledgling corporations and are in place in order to keep new companies out of the market.

I meant big powerful multi-national coprorations. The ones who would be trying to kill the competition, like you say.

If there are more restrictions put on a small business for incorporating than if they didn't, I guess they shouldn't do it. I don't know a lot about the advantages/disadvantages of small business incorporation.

Of the options posted I'd have to say I'm a libertarian. However I am not a Libertarian(as in a follower of the party) because they put too much emphasis on the U.S. Constitution and often have monetarist views that I don't think are very realistic. I think the government ought to be run by a panel of people trained in economics and public policy and it ought to fullfill only those roles which it has to in order to keep the economy running smoothly and efficiently.

I'm free market oriented utilitarian when it come to the economy (as in I believe markets should be free but that the bottom line should be the greater good, and I realize greater good is an interpretation that can be manipulated) and I'm libertarian when it comes to absolutely everything else.

Everything works out in the end, sometimes even badly.

      Communitarianism

It seems that more power needs to shift to the community at the local level, and thereby more to individuals as well. Why have governments and corporations both become more centralized? Why according to economists, has wealth been increasingly concentrated in fewer and fewer hands? Why have wages gone down consistently, and progressive taxation has been replaced by regressive taxation?

I'm more of a libertarian, and I'd like to quote Thomas Jefferson; "That government is best which governs the least" and Thoreaus addition to that; "The best government is the one that doesn't govern at all".

I would have to say I am a utilitarian hedonist. Libertarian in the sense that, as bluefinger said, with social issues, as long as it does no harm to anyone else. If someone wants to do something, they should feel free to do it. However I would say I am a supporter of a strong government, yet only if they support such ideals (social, economic, and scientific progressivism).

Speaking of the "hobbesian view" here...
I used to always ask myself the question, that oh-so-debated question... what is man's inherent nature? I once read an essay by Sartre about existentialism that says man is not inherently anything, but rather, what man DOES is in fact his "inherent" nature. That is to say, there IS no inherent nature and man makes himself as a human being and as a "species" through his actions. Existentialism gives great insight into philosophical solutions for such mental conflicts (I have always struggled with whether or not man is really "good" or "bad" -- between Descartes and Hobbes -- but existentialism really has helped me reach an area of confidence in thought about that topic), and I really recommend looking deeper into it.
