Well in the Bible it says that it is the only book you need, I wouldn't say you'd go to hell, I don't believe a single action would send someone to hell, that's what forgiveness is for. Personally I wouldn't read it, but that's because I believe in the Bible, and it tells me the Word of God only comes from the Bible and you don't need any other book. It's really up to you, but I think of things this way: If I don't think I should be doing it then why bother trying.

Your... god sends people to Hell for reading..? Better stop coming to this forum, then. There's a heck of a lot more blasphemy going on around here, that's for sure.

I highly suggest you read the Book of Mormon. This will give you an insight into what she believes and will also help your relationship build strong. Also, the experience will help your faith grow strong by allowing you to understand altering viewpoints. I personally believe it is a sin to be ignorant of other people's religions that are in your community. Having no understanding of another's religion creates tension between groups.

You will not go to hell because god will forgive all those who believe in Jesus Christ (john 3:16). Despite, it is not a sin to read another religion's holy book.

Reading is the Devil!:p Anyway hell is man made..made by men to scare people IMO. I don't believe in hell 1 bit, and i don't understand how anyone could without second guessing this "god" of theirs for being a power monger. Anyway that's just my opinion, but people can believe what they want. One thing that's a fact and why i'll never be religious at all...religion is why this world is so messed up! check out the war against terrorism, or tons of shootings like the V tech shooting for example. The world would be a better place if religion was never made at all...not perfect but people need to grow up in their belief system. Your god is dumb if he tells you to kill people, that's not a belief, that's just stupidity! ohwell, i know exactly how dumb humanity is anyway. I'm surprised we have not killed each other off with our dumbness. Sometimes i just CANNOT take how dumb people can get in general...o just wanna slap some sense into them. You have a brain, so use it.

If you read Harry Potter, you will also go to hell. And if you read HP *while* reading the book of moron, you'll go to double hell. Think of it as the "DQ double chocolate brownie blizzard" version of Hell.

god the creationism museum is opening soon.

Nothing. Man reading the bible god doesn't really play fair. Killing everyone in a flood and killing every first born child in Egypt(I though god hated abortion). So I if I was you don't read the book of mormom or harry potter, reading only the bible would make sure you're saved. I will try and find the passage where it says to stone to death children if they don't obey.

I suggest you read it. I'm mormon and we are also christians. There's nothing wrong with having a intrest in other religions. I'm currently reading the koran, the bhagavad gita, and other texts regarded as sacred by other religions

How can you know what you believe if you don't know what you don't believe? Anyone who is going to make such a bold claim as to say they think they know how everything actually works should at least know what the alternatives are.

Why read the book of mormon when you can watch a funny south park episode for free about it?

      All about the Mormons

...in the episode it tells you about how the book of mormon was written, it sounds almost as stupid as scientology. It was written by a guy named, Joseph Smith who claimed to have been visited by god, and a native american angel who claimed all native americans used to be white and came from Jeruselum. The angel also said Jesus used to live in Missouri. Then, the angel told him to search for an ancient text written on these gold tablets in ancient indian which were the supposed lost texts of Jesus. He had to translate them using these seer stones. Not to mention, he never showed the texts or the stones to anyone because the 'angel' told him not to, and people just believed what he wrote. hehe.

The best part is, the person who was supposed to be writing down what Joseph Smith saw glowing off of the tablets hiding them in a hat, went home and told his wife about Joseph Smith who told her husband to hide the first writings of it to see if Joseph could then recite the same words exactly again. If he could then obviously he did indeed have these purported gold tablets. HOWEVER, when Joseph Smith was approached with the news that the first writings were misplaced he went off and prayed and said God came to him and told him that since he lost them he would punish Joseph by having him recite that part of the book off of another tablet which would be worded differently, and again, everyone just took his word for it. hehe

Sounds like a cool religion, eh?! LOLZ...only in the midwest of america could such blatant ignorance and stupidity be born.

I doubt you will go to hell, for a start, what proof is there for hells existence? It only exists in your mind because its what you believe, and you have freedom to believe what you want to believe so why believe in somthing that worries you, just chill and do as you wish. You'll be fine though, don't worry about sins and all that.

Why would you asume that south park got it right? I saw the episode. Joseph Smith did not transate the plates out of a hat. There were more than 4 plates. He did not dig around all day looking for them. He found the plates when he was 14. He did not tell everyone he had found them. Others did see the plates. Anyone who has opened up a copy of the Book of Mormon would know that. Martin Harris's wife did not hide the lost 118 pages. People did not easy accept Josephs testimony, if fact he was hated and pursecuted for it.

Also, there was never a claim that Jesus used to live in Missouri. They were not lost text writen by Jesus. And the BoM was translated in New York, not the Mid-west.

I love Joseph Smith and I love the book of Mormon. I don't mind criticism as long as it's not mean-spirited and you have a better source for information than south park.

      Hi Riff,
Well, if your going to read that one you might as well read all you can get your hands on because Jesus said "Seek, and you shall find." So no I dont believe you will go to hell. Read the Gnostic's "Nag Hammadi," read Carlos Castaneda's Don Juan books, read Jesus, the last Pharoah, go to a Border's book store if there is one in your area or go to the library. Also DNA has proved Joseph Smith was a wacky doodle on the American Indian issue. Whatever you do read what you want. Shoot read "Harry Potter." As far as hell goes only man creates that. Like Heaven, its what you bring out of you.

Hell is a place entirely made up, by the abomniation of a religious sect "Catholics". It does not exist.

According to inuit faith, what was considered Hell was a good place, since it was warm and wonderfull, and the sky was cold and lonely.

Made up, it is a main part of their religion. You may think it's made up but to them it's very real...Unless your one of those who thinks that Hell is not actually a real place at all, so when it is described in the Bible as a Lake of fire thats justa story. If you think that then you may as well think the same of heaven.

I'm agreeing with Marvo on this one, it is entirely made up, as for heaven, thats entirely made up aswell, it just wasn't brought into the discussion.

As far as hell goes... Back in my catholic days, when I went to Catholic high school, I asked my religion teacher about hell, and even him, someone who was very close to deciding to become a priest (but then decided he wanted to raise a family more than to be a priest), thought of hell as more of a philosophical "state of the soul" kind of thing, and not "a place with lakes of fire, where you are tortured for all eternity"... what a stupid notion...

As far as I know this is entirely made up by the catholics. It was never mentioned in the Bible, from what I've heard.

The lakes of fire, yes, but that's not neccesarily eternal suffering. It's just not as good as heaven/paradise.
