I think that it is sad and in fact massively scary that the most powerful nation on this planet even lets people like this into the public light. In fact I will go as far to say that it is disgraceful that religion is even allowed to mix with politics in America.

Its not that I am against freedom of speech its just that these people promote ideals that are scary when coupled with the power the US has.

My god (pardon the pun) this is getting ridiculous. I'm sorry to say this but America is so entrenched in religious hypocrisy and ludicrous doctrines that I feel the Americans mindset slowly turning into another Nazi regime. I'm scared shitless of the possible futures to come, and I sure as hell was freaked out when Bush said he'd go to war because God said so. Even when I was a Christian I thought Bush was a little off his rocker, but now that I've been an athiest for a full year I'm beginning to see how corrupt our politics really is. Oh, and the media isn't doing a good job of being so "fair & balanced" on the matter either. They are making Islam look like a religion that spawned from the lowest circle of hell itself. I can't even have a normal, peaceful conversation with my father anymore when it comes to politics because he's become so brainwashed by the news into thinking that democrats, evolutionists, Muslims, terrorists, atheists, gay, lesbians, criminals, feminists, and communists are all working TOGETHER to wipe Christianity, the "sole defender of democracy", off the planet. This is driving me so off the edge that I'm going to stop there before I say something I could regret.

What many are failing to see, is that if we were to somehow collect a true sample of the entire country's thoughts, beliefs, sentiments, etc of this topic, we would most likely find that the majority's attitude would reflect the same views as the majority in this thread.

I just refuse to believe there is such an abundance of naive people in this country. It's not only in this forum, but also in people I meet in person - none seem to have this radical point of view that the government seems to portray us citizens as having. It REALLY pisses me off people say something to the effect of "this country is full of crazies - how can we elect such people?!", because while it's supposed to be us that are electing them, IT REALLY ISN'T! We have a corrupt system of government that is no better than that of a 3rd world central american one! Hell, even their system is better in that they don't really attempt to hide their schemes!

There's supposed to be a separation between church and state, no? Why isn't THAT issue being raised? If religion is really THAT important to people, they they should go back to the days where you had a king who was under the direction of the cardinal. Or wait, is that pretty much where we're headed anyway?

You can't destroy a religion without killing everyone who follows it, and then it could still return when other people find out about it - and those things will happen.

Most of the Muslims I know (and I know quite a lot) are sweat and good people. It is this type of talk that ... lets not even go there.

You can kill a religion by denying children from being born into families of said religion, and alienating and stamping out indoctrination though.

Doesn't that seem a bit like abuse to you? Think of all the contexts I meant in that; there are more then one.

Oh, and back at that first bit: though both Atheists and Theists have been around since the dawn of mankind, many people who are Atheist have come from Theist families and vice versa. Both have called the other fools and followers of insane doctrines. Don't be so sure that the death of all religions now will mean the total death of all religion forever.

(one last thing: according to this book I read a few months back, it looks like Monotheism came about in different cultures at the exact same time as true Atheism. Makes you think, doesn't it?)

I say let them alone as kids and make their own decisions as far as that goes.

Watch religion start to go down if everyone did that.

I don't think it is fair to generalize and say that only Theists brainwash there kids ... or that anyone brainwashes there kids for that matter. For all we know, in three hundred years time people of the belief that aliens started life might accuse Atheists of "brainwashing" their kids, as apposed to the "scientifically proven 'fact' of intelligently planted parasperma." We might even have the "Flying Darwin-Fish Monster"!

That's the whole point of the church! To take young kids, and teach them that.

And yes, sure there is a ridiculously minute chance that they could possibly be right. But so far there is no reason to believe, and I have never heard anyone believe except for "personal experience" and because someone told them to.

Of course I suggest teaching evolution to school children. Do they not go to school to learn mathematics, reading, and other sciences as well?

And as for the middle quote as I said, people who aren't indoctrinated as children will less likely be indoctrinated as adults.

1. Tell me where you have seen rational, non-militant Atheists brainwash their children.
2. The "theory" that aliens started life is just a distant speculation and not a commonly held belief among non-theists.

I know people wont like that but I challenge anyone to look at religion objectively and tell me that the message it delivers is not destructive.

By teaching children religion at an early age you teach them that the in crowd is right good and just and the out crowd or anyone else is evil and wrong. The reason its bad is because after time these believes become embedded in people and produce people like this McCain or like the Taliban or evangelical fundamentalists who bomb adoption facilities. All these believes do is fracture or world into waring sects

Teaching kids science is healthy because it teaches people to question things and come to a good sound conclusion

correct me if I am wrong but arnt Jesus, God and the holy spirit one and the same? and if that is true given that the old testament is the word of the father does that not mean then that it is just as relevant as the new testament.
