I can't grab the link with my phone, so if someone could link the story I'd appreciate it, but this floored me. Texas authorities Monday removed over 400 minors, mostly young teenage girls, and 133 adult women from a compound of the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints outside Eldorado. The group splintered from the Mormon church over 100 years ago when the larger church renounced polygamy. Many of these people have never known life outside the compound. It's just insane--I doubt there are 400 teenage girls in my hometown.

Saw this in the metro's paper this morning and almost posted it myself. A 16-year old girl in the compound called the authorities saying she was abused and that young girls 14 to 15 were being forced into marriages with much older men. In my view, polygamy was the least of their evils. I'd say forcing a girl of 14 to marry her own cousin against her will and conceive is tantamount to rape.

Well, I don't see how you can view slavery and stoning as wrong. The Bible Old Testament orders you to do them, and it's half of your scripture.

I'm not a fan of the LDS, but he's actually right that this group more or less broke away from their church some time ago. The LDS church does not recognize them.

Samuel (12:7-8) "Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel ... and I gave thee ... thy master's wives." Now i know God doesn't directly approve polygamy here, but people read from scripture what they want to see. They see many Biblical characters with multiple wives, so they think they are allowed to, i know God also says it is not allowed, but this is what they take literally i guess.

That verse has been twisted so much, it is begining to annoy me. The people where freaking and jesus told them chill, I am not here to trash what you believe, I am here to fulfill a few prophecies. He never said he wouldn't make changes he just said he wouldn't trash Judaism.

yes but like i said, you can see in the verse what you want to. Sometimes one Vicar may use it in a sermon to talk about some OT laws he thinks still stand, where at the same time another vicar may be discussing what you were saying about him not meaning OT laws were still to be followed. Some OT laws are followed, so it's hard to know which ones your supposed to follow and which you aren't.

Don't be hatin' on the Mormons. They banned polygamy a while ago...but these are just extremist sects. That being said, I think it's horrible for people to be forced into marriages with people they don't like / people they aren't ready to marry. Seriously. And just to be entertaining, "sects" sounds like "sex". /me scurries off
